Resume help

Hey ladies, I need some help.

I called an Urgent care place in the area and they're looking for a receptionist PT, right up my alley. They asked me to bring in a resume.

Therein lies the problem. All I have is my professional resume that is set up to get full time degree-required jobs.

I worked at 2 doctor's offices in college PT years ago.

My question is, do I keep my professional experience on there, and just add the two relevant experience jobs on there?

My thought process was that they would want to know I've had some "real world" experience, and that I have a degree. Am I overqualified? Yes. But I already know that and that's okay with me. I just thought that it would help if they knew I already know how to conduct myself in a professional environment.

Or, should I completely take off my professional experience and just put the two college jobs I held at doctor's offices years ago? That was back in 2006, 2007.

Oh, and the jobs I had after college were financial analyst type jobs. Nothing related to the medical field, but still office-type jobs.

TIA ladies.

Re: Resume help

  • I would not take anything off since it will look like you haven't worked in a very long time.

I'd just add the relevant experience.

Thank you! That's exactly what I was thinking. H told me to take it off because it's not relevant.

Seeeee, H, you're not always right. Stick out tongue

  • Do not remove anything but do add the medical jobs. If you have a ton of info about the non-medical jobs, cut them down to make room for the medical jobs so it stays one page.

Write a cover letter that explains your situation and that you are attending nursing school and looking for a part time job. This will help with the "overqualified" situation.

I would also add a cover letter discussing your current aspirations and the relevant experience.

    Already did that! Smile

    Thanks!

  • If you have a lot of non-relevant experience and relevant you can do two bullets which you can list each of those. That way they will see you don't have gaps, but they will have all the relevant experience in one place.

This is exactly what I was going to say.
