My Mom just called

... to ask me what my plans for Thanksgiving were.

It's still August, right?

Re: My Mom just called

  • Tell her you're coming to my house. I am thisclose to boycotting the inlaws for this year.

  • This is something DH's mother would do too. I have considered planning a vacation over Thanksgiving this year just so I don't have to deal with her.

  • lol Sounds to me like she's getting in before Mark's parents.  :)

  • This is completely something my mom would do and it would drive me INSANE.

I'm with Alissa - often think about a vacation, just to not have to deal with the family BS

We rotate so she doesn't have to feel competitve (because she totally is).

Apparently she's arguing with my Aunt who they usually do Thanksgiving with so she wants us to host so she doesn't have to deal with her. But still, plenty will change in 3 months.

  • I thought this post was going to be bad...  I'm so glad it isn't!

My mom asked me this same question a month or so ago because she wanted to make sure it was ok if they went to NYC to see my step-bro for Thanksgiving like they did last year.

  • That is pretty funny. The only thing I know about Thanksgiving right now is that I will be in Disney the week before like we always are :)

  • We kind of have to plan out big holidays far in advance because my parents are so far away and DH's parents are still a good 4 hour drive from us.

We have talked about Thanksgiving because Canadian thanksgiving is 5 days after my due date so we basically said we won't be doing anything (travel related especially) regardless if baby is born or not by then.

We chatted with my mom about Christmas plans just last night, but again, they live so far away we have to plan in advance and make sure everyone in the family is on the same page with dates, etc.

  • haha! That sounds like something *I* would do! I'm a silly planner when it comes to stuff like that. Embarrassed

  • Now that I've had a few hours to digest, I'm kind of excited about it.

If anyone wants to share their favorite Thanksgiving decor ideas, recipes, activities, memories, etc, I'll take them!

  • Um..my MIL asked me Saturday when we were booking our tickets to come to FL for Thanksgiving (something we have never done before). Yeah, never, since I will be 36 weeks pregnant.

Oh yeah, and she started pestering me to buy tickets to FL for Feb., knowing fully that S would not be able to come, she wants me to buy tickets so her grandchildren can come see their new pool. Sorry MIL, I will not be traveling 1500+miles with a 20 month old and a 1 month old by myself.

  • I've been thinking about Thanksgiving lately, but only because our plans are so up in the air right now, who knows if Tony will be home by then or not, he should be, but you never know. As for our parents, they know not to ask us what our plans are, since we seem incapable of planning for the future they just leave us be and if we plan to go for a holiday we let them know a few weeks ahead of time, this drives my mom nuts, but there's really nothing we can do about it. The sorry fact is neither of us have spent Thanksgiving with either of our families in years, 5 for me and 9 for DH, so I doubt I'll be getting any "are you coming this year?" from any of them.

And another sighting on the "isn't it August front?" my grocery store already has Halloween candy out, it's been there for like 3 weeks now. I'm scratching my head over it...

If you don't have plans, feel free to hop a plane to Jersey. I'll feed you lots and then make you get up ungodly early the next day to do black friday shopping! It's probably my favorite weekend of the year.

If I wasn't going to be 36 weeks pregnant on Thanksgiving/Black Friday shopping I would SOOOO take you up on this offer!

You know you're always welcome here! Maybe next year?

  • Next year sounds tempting.  Although, it would have to be w/out E because the day after Thanksgiving is a mandatory workday for his job.  Boo!  I've always wanted to go to New York to see the Thanksgiving parade, so hopefully one year we will be there FOR SURE!

Thanks Kate! You are so sweet! I love Black Friday shopping! Though I think this year our Thanksgiving plans are probably going to include house-hunting in our new location if all the timing works out as we have heard so far...
