I posted a few months ago about this but I'm having ZERO luck! My husband can transfer, within his company, to an office in a much larger, much better city that is 4 hours from the one we currently live in. We desperately want to relcoate to this city so we can buy a house and get settled before we start to have children. Moving to this city is our dream and there is so much more opportunity for us and our future children in this new city.
The only problem is, I cannot find a job. I have been applying and recruiters have contacted me but once they hear that I live 4 hours away they are no longer interested in me. I have made it clear that if they wish to interview me in person, I could be there the next morning and if offered employment, I could start in two weeks. I will relocate at my own expense and have housing arranged. Nope, they want someone already living in that particular city.
What can I do? We basically feel stuck in this terrible city that we are in and there's nothing we can do. We're working on saving six month's worth of my salary before I just quit my job and move, but I would really like to find a job before I just up and leave the steady income that I have now.
Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!
Re: Job hunting in a different city
If you're getting that much interest, I'd just suck it up and move. Once you're in the new city, now there's no excuse for recruiters to say they're not interested.
BTW, is your DH's company offering a relo package?

If you could survive on just his salary for a little bit until you find something, and you are positive you want to move, then I'd go ahead and move there. It sounds like you are getting a lot of interest. I'm not sure why they want you already living there--unless they feel you might not be "serious" about it since you haven't moved yet, which I don't agree with. I have looked for jobs in other cities and never run into this.
If it goes a few more weeks and you still get turned down for this reason, it looks like you'll have to relocate in order to get hired, and you have to decide if that's a risk you want to take without having a job lined up. Good luck
