Quick Wedding Gift Question

We're heading out soon to a co-workers wedding, and I am in brain fart mode.  I'm trying to remember how to write out a check as a wedding gift.  I know to write Mr. Husband or Mrs. Wife, but I can't remember if I should use Mrs. Wife's maiden or married name. I know that the "or" will make it work either way, but not being able to remember the correct way is driving me crazy. Anyone know the "rule?" in NY

Re: Quick Wedding Gift Question

  • Most of our checks were made to Mr & Mrs New last name. I did not have any issue putting them in my bank before my name was changed.

Hello. I've waited here for you. Everlong<3<br>
  • Unlike the others, I would make it out to the bride and/or groom using their current names. If the bride changes her name, she can cash it before; if she doesn't, she can still cash it. I did not change my name and, while I was able to cash the checks made it to a person who doesn't exist, I was a bit frustrated by the assumption that I would be changing my name... Plus, I know a handful of people where either the husband changed his name, or both husband and wife changed to a hyphenate.

Seriously... How dare people give you money AND assume you are changing your name. The nerve of them.

I didn't ask for money, or gifts of any kind. I just don't understand why someone would assume this. I fail to see how assuming a woman is changing her name is in any way connected to giving the couple a gift of any kind.
