Dreaming of a fall dinner party
Hi, my name is TarHeels, and I plan dinner parties as a mental escape. In my daydreams, my job doesn't keep me up til 2 am worrying about how to quit and I don't live 7 hours away from my husband and I'm always the perfect hostess throwing a fabulous party.
So this invitation sparked this daydream
because I own this tablecloth that is similar to the invitation
and I inherited china like this that I never have a reason to use since, ya know, you can totally use '70s burnt orange & gold china on a daily basis 
Since I always end up having dinner for ~20 people and everyone perching on the couch, I'd love to do a small sit-down for 6-8.
Veggies & dip
Potato gratin with rosemary crust
Walnut-apple spinach salad with cider vinaigrette
Crusty rolls
Pear-apple-cranberry crisp with vanilla ice cream
And sure, for 6, Dollar General Thin Mints
Is it October yet?
(For a dinner party, how early would you send out snail mail invites? 3 weeks?)

Fall is hands down my favorite time for a dinner party and I LOVE those invites.
I think 3 weeks is fine but I always put feelers out via email or a phone call to get guests to save the date. Fall weekends fill up FAST.

I agree, I'd mention the idea/date to your guests early and then send the formal invites. Maybe even get a "sure, we'll be there!" and then say "Okay, formal invitations are coming."

Beautiful! I totally understand daydreaming about planning dinner parties... I only throw one big party every year, and that's our NYE party. I start planning the next one, well, sometimes more than a year in advance. You menu sounds amazing. I'm going to check out that potato recipe! Yummmm
