Finding sex of baby at 7 weeks
They do this now through a blood test, but insurance doesn't cover it. The mom i babysit for is 6 weeks pg with #2 told me this today. I thought it was kinda cool.

tell us in 7.5 mos if it is correct.

there's a lot of buzz about this on TB...i think people need to be more patient. also, this opens up the doors for selective abortions based on the baby's sex. chinese/asians still prefer son's, and i'm sure other people still prefer one over the other...and if you're that mom with the 4th pregnancy, and all you want is a little girl as opposed to another boy.......
if it's more accurate, go for it, but i don't think it should be done before 2nd tri.

Isn't there still a chance of miscarrying at 7 weeks?
Can the blood test find out anything else like disease or illness? This kinda feels like putting the cart before the horse, but I probably just don't get it.
yes.
yes, but i'm not sure if they can do it this early. currently, they do the blood test screenings at 11-14 weeks.

uw- that was my thought at first.. if you miscarry in the 1st trimester, then you knew what the sex is and i imagine it would make it even harder than it already is.
i completely agree wtih you jenn! people could totally start to abort their girl for a boy and vice versa. not ok.
PLUS, you have more time to obsess over what sex it is. and more time to change your mind about a name. and more time to accumulate things.
could the test be wrong? that would be a major fear of mine.. and how much does this test cost?
