teachers and back to school
Hey fellow July teachers!
What are you teaching this year?
Anyone back at work yet? How's it going?
What are you doing (or did you do) to prepare for the new school year?
Re: teachers and back to school
You sound like me. I have been doing a lot of reading, thinking, and prep for the year. What are you teaching again?
RIP Dr. Irving Fishman - 10/1/19-7/25/10 - thank you for holding on for me.
You made my wedding day complete.
I'm teaching K again this year (same school, same room, same assistant).
I will keep A LOT of what I did last year. I found a room layout that works for me (although I do have one alternate layout in mind).
I haven't given much thought to the start of the year...I guess I know what I'll be doing these last 2 weeks before teachers go back on the 29th. Kids start Sept 6.
I am teaching 6th and 7th grade reading support and 7th grade reading to one of the two 7th grade teams. This is a brand new position for me.
Since I am starting this new job and participated in a writing institute for which I need to do an inquiry project this fall, I have been doing a ton of reading and planning for the research. I want to write more lesson plans this week. I am going in on Wednesday to meet with my new principal.
I start inservice next Tuesday for 3 days and kids start on the 29th.
I have teacher workshop days this Friday and next Monday, kids start a week from tomorrow. I spent most of today finishing up stuff in my room (decorating, etc.) I have a lot of prep to do still (first year in the district) but I am finally anxious to get started!!
I'm teaching high school English - English II, III and IV. I teach 2 sections of each - with the exception of the freshman courses, I AM the English department, haha. Smaaaaaaall district.

This is my FIRST year, and my students arrive TOMORROW! I can't wait!! I should really be in bed, but I'm too anxious. We started back last Wednesday with teacher prep days. Today we were given the entire day just to work independently. I got a ton accomplished, so it was very beneficial.
I'm teaching 7-9 language arts, and I'm advising the school newspaper.
To prep for the year, I did a lot of classroom management type things. I know the actual lesson plans are super important, but I wanted to make sure my classroom was thoroughly setup to run smoothly first.
This first week we are doing a lot of community building activities. Next week we'll jump into the curriculum more.
Oh! One more thing. For any English teachers out there, check out http://englishcompanion.ning.com. LOVE that site. I've gotten so many awesome ideas from there. And it's such a great place for reflection.
