Saving boxes?

Do you all save the boxes for stuff that you buy? For some reason I feel the need to keep them. My kindle box, cell phone boxes (I usually end up selling my old phones on ebay though so it comes in handy to have the box for it to look better), xbox, etc. I got my new laptop and I really don't see a need to keep the box it was shipped in. Do you guys keep your boxes for stuff like that?

Re: Saving boxes?

  • My parents always kept those boxes growing up-- DH throws them out. We get in fights all the time about it! I would like to keep it through the warranty period but I'm crazy... it might not make sense!
  • We keep the for our computers, the rest go in the garbage.  JT loves to keep the boxes for everything.  It's dumb, if you need a repair for warranty reasons, most times they're going to send you a box.

  • Hmm glad to hear there are different views! I'm not sure where this idea of keeping boxes came from and why we feel some obligated to keep them! I'm getting rid of this new computer box if they send you a box if it's under warranty anyway! My allergies are horrible, so the less cardboard around the house the better!

  • I keep my boxes for a little while, like 2 weeks maybe just to make sure the item is working properly in case I have to send it back to where it came from.  Other than that I throw boxes out.

  • We only keep certain ones.  The cell phone boxes for the phones we currently have and we definitely kept the box for our iMac as we bought the training package and will need to bring our computer with us to training if we want to really utilize the training to its fullest. I kept my netbook box for a month and once I knew it was working fine, we threw it out.  DH got an el cheapo laptop (Acer) and already threw the box out on it as it's no biggy if it breaks...we wouldn't be able to return it anyway nor would we want to spend a lot to fix it since we knew it was cheap going in.  The only other box we kept is our DVR box from DirectTV b/c we'll need it if we ever get rid of the service.

  • I like to keep the boxes just in case I need to return the item but it just ends up being a huge mess for me in the end because I never end up throwing them away.

  • Anything that is $$$ (computer, laptop, phones), we will keep for the length of the warranty (usually 3 yrs). Others, they go in the recycling bin. DH loves to save boxes and it drives me up the wall. Like, you are going to keep the box our bbq is in? No?!
