Decorating without painting

How do you normally decorate without painting the walls?  My original plan was to get curtains, but H doesn't want to hang the curtain rods when we'll be moving in less than 6 months.  I thought they came standard, but I was wrong.

Re: Decorating without painting

  • I'm not big fans of curtains, simply because it's another soft surface for dog hair to stick to, but Joe absolutely detests trying to find studs, make the rod level and even.  He hung one curtain rod for me when we moved and he cussed at it the whole time.

For six months tenancy, I wouldn't even decorate.  White walls don't bug me that much.  The most I would do is hang the really special pictures.

  • For some reason I thought that the house would just come with the rods already installed.  I don't know where I got that idea.

I'm not big on hanging things on the walls, but that might be because the place we lived for the past two years had concrete walls you couldn't hang thing on.  Would it be worth it to get one of those vinyl decorations for the living room?  I've never messed with one before.

That's a really good idea!  I've seen vinyl decals at some BXs and at Target.  Etsy has cute ones too.

Oh yes they are so fun and easy! We don't have any up in the new house because I can't find what I want and I might decide to paint stencils instead but I have ordered a few. Etsy has some great ones and Upper Case Living has some awesome ones too. The big one I did in our living room in our apartment I had to have help putting up because it was really awkward trying to do it alone.  The smaller ones aren't a big deal to do yourself.

Can they be peeled off and moved?  I'm hesitant to spend money on something that has to be tossed in 6 months

The Etsy one I had said it could be but I couldn't get it off in one piece. If you could find something small that livens the room up a bit but you don't have to spend tons of money on I would go that route over a large one. I spent about $40 on mine but it was up for about a year and a half before I had to take it down. Its something to think about.

  • honestly if you are moving in 6 months iwouldnt worry about decorating... but you can buy wall decals... they go up easy and can be removed easily .. they have all sorts of designs and sayings

  • No matter where we are or how long we'll be there I always hang curtains. I don't know, to me it just seems more 'homey'.
