TMI Alert: one of my cats threw up over an air vent and I have no idea how to clean this up so that none of it falls through the vents. DISGUSTING.

Uhh... if it hasn't fallen through yet, maybe you could very carefully remove the vent cover to clean it. Just be sure to block the open area with a large box/book/something.
