DH interviewed for a job where he would work entirely from home. The company is based in CA, and we live in VA. A few other remote employees live in our area, but he would not be working with them closely.
DH has always worked in an office setting, so he's curious whether he would like working from home. He's not one to be best friends with his coworkers, but he is concerned that he may feel isolated, especially since the company's headquarters are so far away. FYI, the job was recommended to DH by a former employee who raved about the company itself.
I told him I would ask around here since I always get such great advice and insight. Do you like working from home? Why or why not? TIA!
Re: Tell me about working from home
I was able to WAH when we had weather or major traffic issues at my last job. I was much more productive that way. I could roll out of bed at 7 and do a couple hours of work before having breakfast and a shower, whereas I would be sitting in traffic during that time if I drove into work. I made sure I had a quiet, dedicated area in the house that was for work so I wouldn't be distracted by TV, etc. It worked out well.
Now I'm a SAHM who does freelance work on the side. I'm in MA and my company has offices in NY and NJ. It works out well. I can still get stuff done with DD and have a PT workload that allows me to do work when she's napping or in bed for the night, or when DH can watch her. I have to budget my time wisely, but other than that it's a great setup.

My husband is in a similar situation - his company is based out of the Bay Area and we live in Colorado. He worked from home for a while, since he was the only one here, and then found a co-working space with some friends who had a start-up and shared a desk there. His company actually hired another employee here, and the company is paying for the two of them to rent desks in a new co-working space near our home. He can still work from home when he wants, but he spends three days a week or so in the "office" and gets to mingle with people.
I've worked from home in the past, and... it's not for everyone. You have to maintain a routine - get up at the same time, shower, get dressed, and act like you're going to work, even if it's just down the hall. It's also easier to get distracted by things like housework, laundry, snacks in the fridge, etc. And after a while, you get lonely (or, at least, I did). Other people can be a distraction too day in and day out, but at least some socialization is a nice way to temper the independence of being a remote employee.

I started a new job last January and I'm in an office. In my prior job, I spent the last 3 1/2 years working from home. In comparing both, I really miss working from home.
I agree with Dr. Loretta - I was more productive at home. I would roll out of bed and start working. I loved being home with my dogs and being able to do things like laundry, make dinner and get on the treadmill in the middle of the day (if I didn't have a meeting). Also, you don't have to deal with any office/co-worker drama. I actually became closer to my co-workers I didn't see because we talked on the phone so often. In the office now, I can go a long while without talking to anyone if I'm super busy. The other major benefit is no commuting. Saving a ton on gas and not having to worry about driving in bad weather.
In a nutshell, I prefer telecommuting to being in an office.
