Re: .

  • Does your toddler have a designated snack time or does he/she graze throughout the day?  What does your toddler eat for snacks?

Zachary has three specific meals, but grazes for snacks throughout the day. For "snacks" he like cheese-its, string cheese, blue berries, bananas, chex-mix, yogarts and more ....

Do you prepare a separate meal for your toddler or do they eat whatever you and your H eat?

For the most part Zac eats what we eat. On occassion, while I won't make him something all together different, I'll make him his plate before I put the finishing touches on our meal. "Here's some ice cream .... before I put the hot fudge on it." (Just an example because I couldn't think of a better one on the fly.... not that we eat hot fudge sundaes for dinner either.)

Have your eating habits changed at all since your LO is eating solid foods?  For example do you eat healthier, prepare more made-from-scratch meals, less fast food/take out?

Yes, we're a much healthier family now with a lot less eat out meals.

What are your thoughts on feeding your LO fastfood?

I don't like to do it, I hate french fries because he can spot them from a million miles away and then that's all he wants. If we eat "fastfood" it is something like Subway where I can really monitor what he's actually eating.

Anything else you'd like to share?

Zachary had his 18 month check-up today and he's so good!! I just love my muscle man!

  • Does your toddler have a designated snack time or does he/she graze throughout the day?  What does your toddler eat for snacks?
She tends to be a grazer, at daycare they have set times I try to duplicate that at home.  She likes yogurt melts, nilla wafers, nutragrain bars, fruit.

Do you prepare a separate meal for your toddler or do they eat whatever you and your H eat? i try to get her to eat what we eat--try being operative--she is not a big eater so if there is something she'll eat I will give it to her.

Have your eating habits changed at all since your LO is eating solid foods?  For example do you eat healthier, prepare more made-from-scratch meals, less fast food/take out?
No real changes, I make a lot of from scratch meals anyway and we eat a lot of fruits and veggies.

What are your thoughts on feeding your LO fastfood?
at this point if she will eat it I will give it to her(eating is our biggest struggle)

  • Does your toddler have a designated snack time or does he/she graze throughout the day?  What does your toddler eat for snacks?
We have 3 meals a day and 2 snacks. Usually they are on set times, but if I am having something I usually give her some.

Do you prepare a separate meal for your toddler or do they eat whatever you and your H eat?
Lately it is a separate meal since we don't know what we are eating. She will usually have leftovers if we arn't eating together.

Have your eating habits changed at all since your LO is eating solid foods?  For example do you eat healthier, prepare more made-from-scratch meals, less fast food/take out?
Yes we do eat healthier now. Much more fruits and veggies than we used to. But there are times where we have freezer and take out when we are too busy.

What are your thoughts on feeding your LO fastfood?
Once and a while not a bad thing, but she has not had any yet.

Anything else you'd like to share?

  • Does your toddler have a designated snack time or does he/she graze throughout the day? What does your toddler eat for snacks?

We don't have set eating times, but I am now trying to curb her grazing, so I try to make sure she is offered something for breakfast, lunch, mid day snack and dinner. Some days this works fine, some days, not so much. She usually asks for what she wants, and she can grab whatever she wants from the bottom drawer of the fridge (where we keep her grapes, apples, carrots, yogurt). She is much more interested in drinking all day than eating. Snacks are either the above, or crackers. She doesn't have much of a sweet tooth, so we don't even have to bother with avoiding the cookies. She asks for ice cream often, but we have to clarify what exactly she is asking for because usually she means ice cube. Yes she still loves her ice cubes in a bowl.

Do you prepare a separate meal for your toddler or do they eat whatever you and your H eat?

If we're eating something too spicy for her, then I'll make sure she has another option. Otherwise, she gets what we get. The only difference for this is breakfast. I like making pancakes or waffles, or having some pastry occasionally. Alex hates that stuff, so she'll have cereal or eggs those mornings. Since I'm making a healthier meal for her than what we're having, I have no problem with it.

Have your eating habits changed at all since your LO is eating solid foods? For example do you eat healthier, prepare more made-from-scratch meals, less fast food/take out?

Not really. I try to make at least a couple full dinners a week and have leftovers during the off nights, but we still eat the processed or fast food just about as frequently as we did before Alex started eating dinner with us.

What are your thoughts on feeding your LO fastfood?

I try to keep it to a minimum, but she's probably already had more than her fair share. If I know it will be a fast food lunch, I'll try to make sure to give her lots of veggies with dinner to offset it somehow. H and I do love some fastfood on a semi-regular basis.

Anything else you'd like to share?

I am so happy Alex's party is over and I don't have to deal with that for another year. Oh, and Miss Freshy is fully in the Terrible Twos. I've had a few comments over the weekend on her developing attitude. Joy.

  • Does your toddler have a designated snack time or does he/she graze throughout the day?  What does your toddler eat for snacks? Abby has 3 meals a day and then usually snacks throughout the day.  I want her to be able to monitor her own hunger so when she is hungry and asks for something I give it to her.  She is a health nut for the most part and loves to snack on: tomatoes, broccoli, string cheese, mushrooms, veggie chips, grapes, basically all fruits and veggies, yogurt, crackers, etc.  She eats anything and everything!Do you prepare a separate meal for your toddler or do they eat whatever you and your H eat? Usually I make Abby dinner when I feed the twins and they kinda eat the same thing.  DH and I don't usually eat until 7pm and thats too late for her.Have your eating habits changed at all since your LO is eating solid foods?  For example do you eat healthier, prepare more made-from-scratch meals, less fast food/take out? We eat the same, but we make sure to give them healthy foods. What are your thoughts on feeding your LO fastfood? I have no problem with the occasional meal.  Abby has been the same weight for about a year now so I am not worried.  Plus if we get her a happy meal, DH eats most of her french fries...lolAnything else you'd like to share? I have to constantly remind myself that Abby is just two.  She is becoming too independent and just tries to do whatever she wants.  I am trying to be firm with her, but OMG its hard!  I hate yelling at her and being mean, but the girl just needs to listen and do what she is told!
  • Does your toddler have a designated snack time or does he/she graze throughout the day?  What does your toddler eat for snacks?

We have set meal and snack times.  For snacks he's big on goldfish crackers right now.  But he also likes graham crackers, fruit, yogurt, etc.

Do you prepare a separate meal for your toddler or do they eat whatever you and your H eat?

I try to have him eat the same thing as us, but will fix him something different if what we're having is too spicy or isn't something that he can feed himself.

Have your eating habits changed at all since your LO is eating solid foods?  For example do you eat healthier, prepare more made-from-scratch meals, less fast food/take out?

I feel like we're about the same as we were before.  We have never been big on eating out and eat decently healthy around the house.

What are your thoughts on feeding your LO fastfood?

I have had to give him more fast food that I would like to with all the travelling that we've done lately.  But we definately don't make a habit of it.

  • Can I step on my fat girl soap box here for a minute, and play off the "Why Are We So Mean" post?

Zachary is a bigger kid, he never had a chance to be little.

Mike and I are obviously bigger people. We're both overweight, but we also both have some very sturdy German gene's in us.

I feel like I get a bit obsessive with how Zachary eats because I am afraid of him getting fat. Now, by no means do I mean that he's on a diet or anything, I let the kid eat, but I will get mad if I hear that DH let him have an extra cookie ....

I'm afraid people will look at Mike and I, and then look at a chubby Zac and instantly say - we'll his parents are fat, that's why he's fat.

And on top of all of that, I really don't want him to grow up worrying about being heavy ... that's why I am trying to make better eating/physical activity choices now so that his chances are slimmer.

    Vent over.

Abby clearly has DHs family's genes because she weighs 26lbs and eats like a horse.  Now the twins seem to have my family's genetics because they are about 24lbs at 9 months and every one comments on how chunky they are.  I also feel they look at me and think thats why they are chunky.  I know I am going to watch what they eat more than Abby since she is so skinny.

I have the opposite problem--I am so obsessive about what Elle eats since she doesn't eat much and she is so tiny--and people comment all the time. My family is the worst--"you have to make her eat"  SUUURE.  Our Pedi wants her to drink juice--she is having none of it!

  • Does your toddler have a designated snack time or does he/she graze throughout the day?  What does your toddler eat for snacks? Jack generally eats 3 squares a day, and snacks in between whenever he is hungry. He eats a ton of fruit, goldfish, cheerios, pudding, cheese.

Do you prepare a separate meal for your toddler or do they eat whatever you and your H eat? We give him whatever we are eating, and to his credit, he tries anything once or twice at least. If he determines that he doesnt like what we are having, he gets chicken and veggies for dinner.

Have your eating habits changed at all since your LO is eating solid foods?  For example do you eat healthier, prepare more made-from-scratch meals, less fast food/take out? We eat pretty much the same - we eat fairly healthy and dont get take out too much.

What are your thoughts on feeding your LO fastfood? As a general rule, he doesn't eat it (and we don't eat it that much either). But there are times when we need something quick, or on the go, and we will all have it. No biggie.

  • Does your toddler have a designated snack time or does he/she graze throughout the day?  What does your toddler eat for snacks? Madeline has 3 meals a day, pretty much at the same time.  During the rest of the day, she usually asks for a snack if she's hungry & we give it to her.  Lately her favorite snacks are cheese, cereal, blueberries, goldfish, or cut up veggies (peppers & cucumbers).

Do you prepare a separate meal for your toddler or do they eat whatever you and your H eat?  It depends on what we're having.  We have her try everything that we eat (unless its really spicy).  If she likes it, we're good & if not she gets something else.  She's really picky about meats (will only eat chicken nuggets, turkey dogs or hotdogs, meatballs, and kielbasa) so her eating what we eat isn't happening as often lately.

Have your eating habits changed at all since your LO is eating solid foods?  For example do you eat healthier, prepare more made-from-scratch meals, less fast food/take out? We make more of an effort to sit down at the table to eat, and we do eat a little bit healthier (more veggies mostly).  We eat mostly from scratch meals, except for Fridays which is pizza & greek salad (she does eat pizza with us).

What are your thoughts on feeding your LO fastfood?  We don't eat a lot of fast food, so she really hasn't had it yet.  When we have gotten it, we've given her a french fry or two, and she doesn't seem to like them.  Not opposed to it, but she doesn't want it.  She does love pizza on Fridays & usually gets a muchkin once or twice a week when I go to Dunkin Donuts though :)

  • Does your toddler have a designated snack time or does he/she graze throughout the day?  What does your toddler eat for snacks?  Yes and no.  We don't really do 'snacks' so much but have been adding some in.  She has milk (in a bottle, still.  Oy) and not with her meals - what about your LOs?  LIke she has bottle, and our later breakfast, etc.

Do you prepare a separate meal for your toddler or do they eat whatever you and your H eat?  Mostly separate except breakfast.  I don't like to eat dinner until she's gone to bed.  Also I don't eat the healthiest so this way I can give her lots of good healthy things and then not have her wonder why I'm not eating my veggies, lol.  I'd love us to eat dinner together as a family but it just won't happen with our commutes.

Have your eating habits changed at all since your LO is eating solid foods?  For example do you eat healthier, prepare more made-from-scratch meals, less fast food/take out?  Haven't really changed

What are your thoughts on feeding your LO fastfood?  Don't love the idea.  However, I never had it growing up (well. extremely rarely).  DH lived on it.  Who is the fat one???

Anything else you'd like to share?  Feeding her is the most stressful thing to me.  I am trying to instill good habits and not pass along my pickiness or food issues.  She is hardly eating lately and it's stressing me out.

  • Does your toddler have a designated snack time or does he/she graze throughout the day?  What does your toddler eat for snacks?

Natalie doesn't have specific snack times, but she typically snacks when she wakes up from her nap, and sometimes if dinner is early, she will have an evening snack.  She knows how to ask for a snack, so I typically only give her one if she wants one.  I don't want her to think that she has to eat, even if she isn't hungry-- my parents did that and it created a food monster in me.

Do you prepare a separate meal for your toddler or do they eat whatever you and your H eat?

Typically she eats what we eat.  I do prepare separate food for her if we are eating something particularly spicy, and we both love spicy foods, so that happens sometimes.  Like Trickey, if I can, I prepare everything together and then separate hers before I spice up the total batch.

Have your eating habits changed at all since your LO is eating solid foods?  For example do you eat healthier, prepare more made-from-scratch meals, less fast food/take out?

As some of you know, we went vegetarian when she started solid foods.  (DH now eats veg at home with us, but sometimes orders meat at restaurants.)  We are definitely more focused on local, organic, healthy foods which I prepare at home, but we still go out to sit-down restaurants a lot, probably 1-2 times a week.

What are your thoughts on feeding your LO fastfood?

Since Natalie and I don't eat meat, there isn't an abundance to choose from to begin with, so we don't do it much at all.  When we do, it's almost always Taco Bell, and I don't feel horrible about it because she eats the bean soft tacos, pintos and cheese, cheese roll ups, etc.  It's not ideal, but in a pinch, I do feel it's ok.

Anything else you'd like to share?

Natalie gets to hang out with Mickey Mouse this week, and it's all she can talk about!  I'm very excited to see her reactions to all the things on our upcoming trip on the Disney cruise and back to WDW.

  • Does your toddler have a designated snack time or does he/she graze throughout the day?  What does your toddler eat for snacks?

We have the typical mealtimes and then he grazes on snacks throughout the day. He knows where to get his snacks and drinks or how to ask for them. He drinks a lot of milk, probably about 4 or 5 cups a day. We really only give him water or milk because anytime he drinks juice it gives him diarrhea. For snacks he loves cheese, goldfish, dry cereal, fruit snacks, pretzels, popcorn, fruit, and yogurt.

Do you prepare a separate meal for your toddler or do they eat whatever you and your H eat?

Normally he will get what we eat because we eat pretty boring around here since DH is extremely picky. Kellen is very picky about the meat he eats and will only eat chicken nuggets, turkey lunch meat (typically from Lunchables), pepperoni, and occasionally hotdogs and ground beef if it's in spaghetti. He loves veggies and fruit so I always add fruit and extra veggies to his plate if we are eating a meat he won't eat. We eat a lot of pizza or variations of pizza because that is one thing he loves and we all can agree on.

Have your eating habits changed at all since your LO is eating solid foods?  For example do you eat healthier, prepare more made-from-scratch meals, less fast food/take out?

We try and eat on a more scheduled time and healthier. We do a mix of both from scratch and fast food/take out because of our schedules. Since I work at night it's hard to have dinner made for them before I leave and DH is not very good in the kitchen.

What are your thoughts on feeding your LO fastfood?

I don't mind it since a lot of places fruit and milk as options to come with the meals and chicken nuggets are one of the only proteins he will eat. He loves Taco Bell's cheese roll ups too. But, we don't get fast food too often since we are homebound quite often. The take out we get the most of is pizza.
