Also, paint color help?

The bar we will be (eventually) putting in will be a gray and white combo (I'm fairly sure.)  Gray countertop, gray travertine floor, white cabinets and bar.

This is how the bar area is painted now.  I don't plan on changing it anytime soon.

The "hang out/game room" is open to the bar area, but also it's own room, sort of.  I'm awesome at explaining things, so I know you'll have no problem figuring out what I'm talking about.  Stick out tongue

Here is the view standing in the bar area, looking into the game area:

Here's a view standing in that far corner ^ and looking to the left (around the corner from that door ^)

^ The bar would be in the left of this picture.

So anyway, it's all open.  But I really want to paint the area a different color.  Any suggestions?  I was thinking a dove gray maybe.  It's currently the same color as the pictures...ew.

The hallway would need to be painted too.

Re: Also, paint color help?

  • The only thing I worry about with grey paint in a basement is it looking too dreary and cave like.  You could stick with blue and do a light aqua color.  Or are you sick of blue?

  • Or you could do "Silver Sage".  It's all the rage on the D&R board (at least it was).  Apparently it goes with everything because EVERYONE used it.  Seriously like...2 years ago, everyone needed a Silver Sage room in their house.  Stick out tongue

Also if you want to go CRAZY bold, you could do an eggplant purple.

Totally sick of blue, but it's my own fault.  All 3 bathrooms are blue, the basement is blue, T's room is blue.  We are on blue overload.

  • What about yellow?  It would look good with grey accents like your floor and bar, and not totally clash with your blues.

I hadn't even thought of yellow, but I kinda love it.  Yellows are tricky, but I'm sure I could figure it out.

Also, our basement is a walk out with a slider and a HUGE picture window (like 12 feet long and 6 feet high) so it gets a lot of natural light down there.

  • We painted our entertainment a super bright yellow and it was really fun.  We also had framed Hitchcock movie posters on the walls.  We painted over it when our house was on the market a few years ago.

A yellow would definitely work well with your blues.

  • My parents painted their basement a silvery gray and it looks awesome.  As long as your basement is well-lit, I don't think it would look like a cave.

    I'd go with gray.
