Where do you look to find a place to rent?
My lease is quickly coming to an end and I have had very little luck finding a new place to rent. Since I am a student I wont be out in New York long enough to consider buying a house so I am stuck looking to rent. I have checked some rental websites and craigslist but I feel like there is nothing out there. Where else would be a good place to look?
Re: Where do you look to find a place to rent?
A lot of landlords here use realtors to list their properties and you have to pay the realtor a finders fee equal to one month's rent. That's how we found the apt we rented when we first moved up here. Rentals like that get listed on the MLS just like sale properties and can be searched on any real estate company website like ww.randrealty.com

The apartment I lived in for 2 years I found just be looking through the ads in the newspaper (online). The landlord had posted the listing and I was able to contact him directly. Had I not found a place so easily, I would have def contacted a realtor.
Not necessarily the case that the renter always pays the Realtor. More often than not, the Renter's agent gets paid by the listing agent.

try realtor.com, or randrentals.com...try to be weary of craigslist, its a good source, but there's lots of scammers trying to take advantage of people. The scammers steal photos of houses and post them for rent at ridiculously low prices and then when you call on them they ask for a deposit to hold it and then disappear. They sometimes will even give you the address to drive-by first to try to make it seem more legit
I'm a Realtor too, I can help if you are looking in Rockland or Orange
