so we had our yard sale...

and we will never have one again. I will start with saying there were some people who were very nice, but I don't knwo how people do this all the time.  I understand that peopek will try and get prices down, no big deal- although they can be pretty annoying and some were rather rude about it.  BUT there were several people who were out right mean and rude and dishonest... omg!  I knew this would be around too, but not to this extent.  I knew things would be stolen, which one pair of sneakers were basically right in front of me- when i had to turn away for a sec, I told DH to watch this woman (he of course was clueless to me even talkig to him) and when I came back the sneakers were gone and no one was paid.  The rude people right to your face, literally in your face was just unbelievable.  Then these 2 women, who were rude right off the bat, took tags off 3 jogging suits (brand new I must add) and would ot stop I was biting my tongue to not tell them to get off my property. I found the tags I put on hidden inside the baby clothes on the table right next to where the suits were hanging. I wish I didn't give them a deal and just donated the clothes to a shelter.  Anyway, I could go on...but I just had to vent.  thanks for listening.

Re: so we had our yard sale...

  • it is amazing what type of people are out there.  I had one at my mothers house when she was moving and I encountered very nice people that day.  I was selling some old china pieces that I had no idea what they were worth..I told them $1 a piece and the lady laughed at me and said I would be stealing those if I paid you $1, they are worth about $20 a piece and she gave me that!

At my friends yard sale, the people would barter and then just take what they wanted.  I couldn't believe it, they were stealing things left and right.

  • Thank you for this post...we were thinking of having a yard sale in the Fall to get rid of baby things...now I'm not so sure.
  • Wow, I never would have thought that people steal like that from yard sales. I have never had one, so I guess I never considered it.
  • Yikes! Sorry it was so bad :( Hope you made a few bucks at least!

I remember a woman and her 2 teenage boys coming to our yard sale and trying to get everything for a quarter. Suits, full sets of dishes, quality pots and pans... didn't matter what it's actual value was. People like that actually made me not want to negotiate. I felt like giving discounts to anyone who was going to pay sticker price and not negotiating with anyone that was too pushy about it.

wow- how nice to have such an honest person.  Nice to hear that after all the negatives.

  • yuck. I think we will craigslist the big things when we move. Or just donate. I do not want to deal with all of that!
