Thoughts on salad

Do you eat it every night?

Before or after your meal?

Does it count as a vegetable?

Re: Thoughts on salad

  • Growing up we had salad with dinner every night, in addition to another vegetable. My mom made a bowl of it and we ate it after the meal.

Now, I can't make a bowl of salad since DH and I don't agree on dressings, veggies, etc. So we don't have it every night, just when we feel like it. And I've been counting it as my vegetable some nights... and often DH doesn't eat any which means he's not getting any veggies with dinner. Just wondering what everyone else does. :)

  • I'm not a huge fan of salads.  I like veggies, just not so much lettuce.

However, I do eat it, because it's good for me.  I certainly don't make it every night, but some nights I do.  I almost always make at least one other veggie with dinner.  We eat it with dinner, and not in a big bowl, because DH and I like different dressings.  I usually just pile it up on the plate with the rest of the food.

Now that I think of it, when I do make salad, I eat it first.  Mostly because it's my least favorite thing on the plate, so I want to get rid of it fastest.

  • I think we had salad most nights growing up. I like salad, but we only have it a few times a month. When I buy fresh lettuce and/or spinach, we have to eat it every day or else it spoils before we can finish it all. Rodgers isn't much into eating raw veggies.

I usually eat it first, but it's on my plate with everything else.

I do count it as a veggie serving.

  • We do salad almost every night.  It is typically one of our main veggies in our house.  We typically eat it before dinner.

  • I probably have 3-5 salads a week depending on the week. When I'm in a healthier mode, I eat more than that. I'll also eat the salad as my primary meal and then a small portion of the main course on top.

Greg hates salad, blames it on his dad force feeding it to him as child and forcing him to eat more salad before he could have second helpings. He typically will only eat a spinach salad with candied walnuts and blue cheese. If that's on the menu he won't refuse, but he typically won't go out of his way to order it either.

It definitely is my veggie, since the primary other veggies we eat are corn and potatoes.

    They don't count, Marcy! Lol

  • We eat salad with dinner a lot and always after dinner - usually arugula or spinach with a mustard balsamic dressing. Then, we might add whatever we have around - onion, pears, apples, etc.

Salad goes on its own plate and we don't count it as the main veggie.

Growing up, we had salad every night after dinner. My parents always said it helps you digest your dinner - not sure if this is true or was their ploy to get us to eat it daily.

  • We have salad maybe 2-4 times a week. It counts as our veggie w/ dinner because typically I load it with, well, vegetables (e.g. spinach/tomato/cucumber/brocolli/peppers etc..) However, sometimes we'll have potato (starch, not veggie IMO) and or another cooked veg like zucchini.

When I am at work I have salads probably 3 days a week for lunch

I could have written that entire statement.

Lettuce for me is a big texture thing, but when I do make it we eat it 1st.
