[Poll]

My friends and I are discussing this on FB, and thought it could be fun to discuss here.

Re: Controversial Clicky: Taxing the Super-Rich

  • is "I don't know" an answer?  I don't really have any strong opinions on the subject and have heard both sides - I can see the pros/cons.  I haven't voted yet, maybe someone can convince me to join their side ;)
  • I wasn't an econ major, and am definitely not an economic expert, but here's my opinion.   Buffett wants to cut a lot of the major tax loopholes that the "Super-Rich" are eligible.  I see nothing wrong with the CEO having to pay the same % of taxable income as the secretary of the same company.  I have never really gotten the concept of corporations and the Super-Rich receiving all these perks so that they can create more jobs in the US.  Super-Rich tax loop-holes only seem to help the Super-Rich, imo.

ok, I guess this is where I wasn't sure.  I can see the argument against making extra taxes for the rich, but I can't see the argument against preventing them from getting out of the same taxes everyone else has to pay.  If what you're saying is the case (as opposed to what I thought it was but I have no idea how econ/politics work), then I would be in support of Buffett.

  • Who's the lone "No" vote????  I'm interested in the Con argument.

This is the way I see it.  I don't think that the "super rich" should necessarily pay a higher percentage than others, but it makes total sense to me that they should pay the same percentage as others.

but wouldn't they be in a higher tax bracket, essentially paying higher percentages on the income they make more than the average joe? i still think the tax brackets should increase with income, although maybe not drastically.
