just curious as to what your favorite budget-friendly meals are?
my in-laws are coming next week as well as my brother-in-law. having them here will probably double our food budget-and I'm on maternity leave. just trying to get some budget-friendly meal ideas! thanks!
Re: budget friendly meals
Hamburger Helper? JK, you probably don't want to go that route.
Sloppy Joes are pretty cheap. I would also think you could get some hamburger meat in bulk and grill out pretty inexpensively.
Also, Tacos, Spaghetti Carbonara (bacon, spinach, and egg), and Roast Chicken...Breakfast for dinner?
I really hope they don't expect you to pay for and cook all the food while they VISIT you on maternity leave!
Definitely have a couple options, but you should not expect to pay for their meals, right?
No hamburger helper! I don't mind hamburger and noodles together--but I can't handle boxed things!
When they visit, we typically have all of our meals here at our house. It is just the way it is!
Roast and potatoes
Spaghetti
Baked Ziti
Hamburgers and brats
Enchiladas
Meatloaf
Chili
We usually do one of these when we have company over.
Planning Bio/Blog
*Hamburgers & brats night with homemade potato salad (I have a quick and easy one that you don't add eggs, it's made with green onions and is really yummy) and fresh fruit (watermelon, mmm).
*Taco night was a good suggestion (and cheap for a lot of people).
*Non-meat night with a beans and rice tortilla wrap (all recipes has a good recipe for this and it makes 10-15 tortillas. You can even freeze these.).
*Casserole (chicken and rice; hamburger and tater tot or lasagna) with a side salad and italian bread.
*Speghetti (one of Elsie's favorite things to eat right now), side salad and bread.
Tacoritas: Hamburger, cream of chicken, taco seasoning, cheese, tortilla wraps.
Here is a new one for our family. Tator Tot nachos! Basically your base is tator tots and then the other standard taco fixings but with nacho cheese included. You can buy already seasoned turkey meat at walmart.
How about those box of ribs that you can find on sale for $10. Put is in the crockpot to cook all day long.
Pizza bread
Homemade pizza- the dough is pretty inexpensive at Rotella's.
Mexi-chicken in the crockpot- a bunch of chicken in the crockpot with taco seasoning, water and a jar of salsa- shred and use as taco filling.
chili-mac--- I have a recipe somewhere if you want it.
