New!

Hi ladies! I'm new around here and had a question you might be able to help me with. I've been married to my husband for about a year now and he is AD USMC. We are stationed in Hawaii for now so we are enjoying it while we can. Now for the question, we are attending a Squadron Dinner that they are hosting since the Squadron will not be around for the Ball. Its a formal dinner and I'm struggling with finding an appropriate dress. I was looking for something knee length to tea length (is that appropriate? I've never been to one of these things!). My biggest struggle is where to find this, I don't buy dresses often and don't even know where to begin.

Any and all input is welcome, anything is helpful for me at this point. Thanks!

Re: New!

  • Hi and welcome.  Tea length is about the shortest I would go to one of these.  I would keep it simple. Stay away from anything that reveals too much. Are there any department storesor bridal shops near you?  If not, I would start looking online.  All the major department stores have special occassion dress sections.  I like Dillard's, Macy's, Nordstrom's, and Belk.  I have a friend who got her dress from TJ Maxx.  It was beautiful.

  • Hi there! I am on Oahu (DH is AD Army) and when I shopped for the Army Birthday Ball I had the best luck at the David's Bridal in Pearl City. I also saw some dresses I liked at Nordstrom in Ala Moana. There are some bridal shops around the island, but I was looking last minute, so I checked all the bigger name stores first so I could buy something off the rack to get it altered in time.

I agree with PP, just keep it simple but formal! You want to avoid anything that looks like you are about to go to prom! :)

  • Thanks, I'll try Nordstrom's, Macy's and David's Bridal. Mine is last minute too since we just found out its mandatory. We're trying to get DH's uniform ready and a dress in two weeks so we are scrambling. I appreciate the help!
