If you have paid leave - how much do you use?

Can you carry over day?  If so, how much?

Re: If you have paid leave - how much do you use?

  • We can't carry over any days, so I wind up using all my vacay.  I have 15 days this year to use.  Only 1 of the 5 companies I've worked for has let you carry over days.

ETA: we have unlimited sick days which I hardly ever use

  • I get 10 days of annual leave (carries over), 6 days of personal leave (have to use by January), 15 days of sick leave (carry over) and comp time for anytime I work over 8 hours a day (have to use within one year of earning). I have a ridiculous amount of comp time. As of right now, I think I have enough leave saved to take 6 months off... All in all I probably take 3 weeks off a year but the days are spread out.
  • I get 4 hours of sick leave and 4 hours of annual leave per pay period which is about 13 days of each per year. I've been here since October 2009 and I currently have approximately 130 hours of each sitting in my leave bank (so over three weeks each.)  I've taken a lot of leave this year (I just checked - I've taken 48 hours of annual and 28 hours of sick, last year I took less time than that total for the year but I've been lazy this year about accruing credit hours....but I've taken about another week in credit hours.)

So overally I definitely don't use all my leave but I feel like I use a lot of it.

I can carry over 240 hours of annual from year to year and unlimited sick.  That's why so many employees at my agency take a lot of time off in November and December bc they have so much leave accrued they'll lose it if they don't use it.

ETA: at the three year mark i'll start earning 6 hours of leave a pay period and after 15 years I'll earn 8 hours of leave a pay period, so the people who have been here a while earn a ton of leave, which is the other reason they take such extensive time off.

  • We have 3 weeks of paid leave to use each year as we see fit....for sick or vacation. The thinking is this keeps people from calling in and using their sick days for personal days. It does not carry over. Yes, I use it all, especially after having a child.

  • I get 10 days vacation and 5 days sick a year (accumlated per month) for now.  It'll increase once I've been here longer.  I can carry over all of it until I have 20 days acculated of sick, and 40 days of vacation.  Once I'm carrying 20 days of sick i just stop earning it, but if I've got more than 40 days of vacation saved up the extra pays out at the end of the year.

    It's not bad.

  • I receive 25 days a year (PTO) and we can carry up to 340 hours. I also get 3 personal days a year too which have to be used during that year or we lose them. I usually take at least one weeks vacation off each year and take another week here and there.

  • We get:

    2 Personal Days

    6 Sick Days

And vacation depends upon service/contract.  I personally have 3 weeks vacation.  You can carry over up to 5 days per year.  As a result coming into 2011 I had four weeks vacation.  Since it's a use it or lose it, I plan to use 3 weeks and carry over the remaining 5 days.  I will also use the 2 personal days as I can't carry them over.

  • I get 30 days of PTO, plus one floating holiday; we're allowed to carryover 10 days, but I rarely carryover more than 5 days.  If you have more than 10, you lose them.

  • I get 22 vacation days, 15 sick days, 3 personal days and 1 or 2 floating holidays. I saved up enough vacation and sick leave to cover 60 days of my maternity leave.

You can carry over up to 400 hours (50 days). Personal & floating holidays must be used by January.

I HAD a lot of leave, but since having DD, I have been using up most of it. I think I still have 5 vacation days, 2 personal days and a sick day. I am trying to build up my leave again in case we TTC again.

  • We get 3 personal days per year. They do not roll over. We also accrue 15 days of PTO over the course of the year. We are allowed to carry over 5 days, but we have to use them by the end of March the following year. I work for a small company and they are good about making exceptions to this and letting us take extended leave or advancing us leave time in special situations.

But I'm still sort of jealous of DH who hoards his leave time and is allowed to carry over a huge amount so he always has 4-6 weeks saved up.

ETA: There's no difference between sick days, personal days, or vacation days for me either. It's all just PTO.

  • I get 3 weeks of vacation, 3 weeks of sick, and 6 personal days per year.  I can carryover vacation and sick leave (pretty much unlimited), right now my balances are I think 2 weeks vacation and 12 weeks sick.  I use most of my vacation leave and all of my personal leave each year.
  • We can carry over up to 5 personal days, and all sick days.  I just wiped out my leave with Claire!

  • I get 4 weeks (20 days) a year of paid vacation and can accrue and carry over a max of 8 weeks.  Sick days and days to care for DS if he's sick aren't really limited - just a "reasonable" amount - which sounds less generous when you factor in that my blackberry buzzes on those days just like any other.

My tendency is to accrue tons and take larger blocks of time every couple of years.  It's a lot easier to take time like that between deals than take a day here or there in the middle of them.  I'm trying to get better about planning short trips now that we have DS - but, like I said, it's a challenge to do since I run deals for a living and they don't stop just because I have a vacation on the books. Stick out tongue

  • we can carry over 400 hours I think, it might have been increased to 500 hours but anyway i rarely have a balance that high.  i try to always carry over at least 100 hours of leave.

our sick leave rolls over with no cap.  i currently have close to 400 hours of sick leave accrued.

  • I have 15 days of PTO. However, all of our leave is lumped together so I don't technically have any "sick" days.

I can carry over 60 hours a year.  I try to use as much of my PTO as possible and that includes taking half days here and there.  This year I took quite a few half days with all the house buying events so I won't have that much time to carry over.

  • 13 sick days, 19.5 annual days.  I can carryover 30 days of annual leave and I try to stay maxed out there for future maternity leave.  So that leaves me with 19 days that I have to take or I lose them.  I can carry over unlimited sick.

Right now, I have 184 hours of annual leave and 368 hours of sick leave.  I'm very grateful for such generous leave.

it's now 600 hours (75 days) of annual leave that we can carry over from year to year but if we leave, we only get paid out for 400 hours...slightly different if you retire but still...

    Within our Agency:
-You start out earning 10 days of annual leave per year and it increases at your 6th year; rolls over from year to year up to 600 hours
-You earn 15 days of sick leave a year with unlimited accumulation
-You're fronted 7 P/L days on January 1st that can't carry over; the rest of the State gets 6 P/L days but our Agency doesn't get the day after Thanksgiving off so they throw a free P/L day at us
-You can earn comp time but as someone mentioned, it expires one year from the date in which you earn it; and you only get paid 25% of your balance to up to 40 hours if you leave up State service
    -We get 11 holidays

  • Because of some health issues with DH and a few bouts of sickness myself, I've used quite a bit of leave so far this year plus a 10 day vacation...so probably a total of 20 days of leave which in the grand scheme of things isn't a lot but for me it is.  I generally only take a week-long vacation and maybe 2 or 3 sick days throughout the year.

  • we can carry over...BUT, it will get paid out 50% when you leave. Having left my last job with over 400 hours...I would hate to ever lose half of that. So I'm literally trying to use it as I earn it (keeping at least 40 hours at all time)
  • We get 4 personal days and 10 sick days per year.  I'm a teacher so no "vacation" days, for obvious reasons.  The sick days will roll over and there is no cap.  Any unused personal days roll over but only 1 will roll over as a personal day the rest will turn into sick days.  So, you can never have more than 5 personal days in any given year.  There is no limit on how many sick days you can take each year (as long as you have it accrued) but I think if you use more than 3 consecutive sick days, you have to provide a medical note.

I am trying to save as much as possible so when we TTC I will have time off if needed. I usually end up taking 3-4 days off a year.

  • I think I get 12 or 13 days now...  this is the last year we can carry over, so we have to use or lose it now.  I get a lot of my Fridays off since I usually travel and crunch as much time in Monday-Thursday.
