Why are they remaking every movie from the 80's?

Here's the awful new Footloose trailer...

Next is Dirty Dancing (NOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!). What about after that? Ferris Bueller's Day Off? I've already heard they're in talks to remake War Games.

Re: Why are they remaking every movie from the 80's?

  • Seriously. They did a remake of Karate Kid and that was horrible. Leave the 80's films...well in the 80's!

  • Ugh, this bothers me. And Dennis Quaid playing the preacher role? That makes me feel old. I guess he's not the leading man age anymore. Sigh.

    So should I see it?

My favorite place on earth: The Amargosa Valley.

  • First of all, Dennis quaid playing a preacher is wrong on many levels, not just age. Second of all the trailer looks terrible.

At least it had Jackie Chan. (confession - I enjoyed it.)

    But this footloose looks barftastic.

    And Dirty dancing? WTF?

I guess what they say is true - there are no good ideas anymore.

Actually - I'm guessing it's for the same reason why there are a ton of sequels out there: people are too scared to go out on a limb and buy original movies because they haven't proven they won't be money pits. (Another great 80s movie.)

But they should take a page from the people who picked up the first Harry Potter book to publish it: ignore that a zillion people turned it down and listen to your 10 year old daughter. She knows of what she speaks.

AoGG was rejected by the first few publishers that it was submitted to. And it's one of the bestsellers of all time. There do seem to be an awful lot of remakes lately but a lot of movies I thought were originals were actually remakes. So some are good and some suck. Such is life. I think the going back years later and making prequels is more annoying.
  • Same with The Help. She was rejected by 40 publishers.
