I'm doing the visa of one of our Chinese students. Going over his bank statements to make sure that he meets the visa maintenance criteria.
The current balance is just over ?60,000,000.

That's not even close to all of his money. That's just "some" that he transferred into a UK account for visa purposes.
The best part - you would NEVER know it from looking at him. He dresses in normal clothes, has bad hair and is generally a nice guy. He's kind of a loner, rents a cheap flat and doesn't even own a car. He's not flash at all. There's just something to him in his attitude of "I don't care about anything but I'm not a *** about it" that's a bit off - but he's not posh or anything at all.
It's so wierd. We've tried to get him to do the Tier 1 Investor visa, but he likes being a student. So wierd.

Yeah, I think my H would be on board too. How does he feel about English Setters? I'd be broken up to leave H, but if he's not down w/ Lucy, it's a deal breaker, even for a solid 50%. Best interest of the dog, you know.
Seriously though, what a different world. I suppose kudos for studying (and not just chill-axing on family $). But at the same time, that much money (for just the visa account)... kind of makes me wonder... fairly earned or earned off the misery of others? I guess that argument works/applies to most of us, indirectly. But that seems, potentially, far more direct and obvious in terms of profiteering. Hopefully, that's not it at all, and the family is just brilliant and innovative. In which case, my initial offer-- divorce and an English Setter, stands

It really does make me wonder though what he family/life is like back in China.
