Layla Ray, a bit early....

Hi Ladies!!

Layla Ray was born last Friday, August 12th at 11:38am
She was 6lbs 15oz and 19 inches long

We weren't quite expecting her.  I was 35 weeks and 6 days...that big storm blew in and GUSH, my water broke!  I guess there is some correlation between the change in barometric pressure and women's water breaking...there were 7 women all admitted within 30 min. of each other here at the women's hospital.  It was an AMAZING labor and delivery (I had a VERY difficult delivery with my first daughter) and when Layla first arrived everything seemed to be ok.  She scored 8 and 9 on her APGAR.  But then about 5 hours after birth, she began having some breathing difficulties.

We are now at the NICU at the Woman's hospital and they have diagnosed Layla with Respiratory Distress Syndrom (immature lungs).  It was a difficult first 72 hours, but Layla seems to be doing much better now.  She is on high-flow with oxygen...but they are slowing weaning her off as her lungs get stronger.  Once she can breathe on her own, we will begin to teach her how to suck and swallow to eat...so we have a bit longer here.  ANY good vibes, love, thoughts and prayers are WELCOME!!!!  As we're trying to stay positive and strong through this experience!

  • Congrats :) We also spent over a week in the NICU at the Women's hospital with our 37 weeker. Everyone was great to us and made the stressful unexpected admission much more tolerable. Also, you should try the French Toast from room service - its pretty amazing :)

  • Congratulations!  Glad to hear that she's doing better.  We spent about 10 in the NICU at UNMC because my daughter was born not breathing & had a punctured lung & pneumonia, so I definitely know how scary it is when they have breathing problems.  We'll keep you guys in our prayers & I love the name!
  • Congrats! I hope your little one continues to make daily improvements and you are all home together soon!
