Dog welcomes Mom back from 'Stan

I've seen a lot of military surprise homecomings. It wouldn't work on me. I always have my back to the corner and my face to the door. Looking for terrorists, criminals, various other threats, and husbands.

  • I'll probably never stop wondering what animals think of things like that? How they perceive mommy or daddy's absence. I wonder if the dog got to hear her voice over the phone or see her on Skype.

  • OMG! That was soo cute. I love it. One of the best part of when J came home from all his initial training was seeing how Jesse (our dog) reacted to him being home again, it's priceless for me.

  • My ILs kept my dog for about a year and a half when I moved back from Japan.  It was supposed to be short term, while I searched for an apt that may or may not be dog friendly.  Shortly thereafter my MIL was diagnosed with terminal cancer and had to stop working, so my dog was her therapy pet.

Dogs don't forget mom and dad.  It didn't matter how much time had gone by, she always greeted H and me with huge squeals.

She had been used to distances, though.  She had to stay with my former roommates for 5 months when I first moved to Japan d/t quarantine.  H flew with her, so they'd reconnected, but she hadn't seen me (and she was my dog, from years before H).  My parents still give me shits for going to the dog first when I picked them up from the airport.  I knew H could wait, but she was all squeally and in her crate in the library quiet Tokyo airport, so I had to attend to her first :)
