Your favorite summer Maine day from this summer....
Re: Your favorite summer Maine day from this summer....
Okay, I want to play even though I didn't go to Maine this summer because all I do is complain about how long and hot the summers are here in Austin. But, I actually had a great time and many moments were I felt lucky to live here. My favorite memory was taking DD to the sprinkler park. She loved it! She would run around from sprinkler to sprinkler, getting pelted in the face at times, and laughing through it all.
I felt lucky to live in a place where, even in the worst season of the year, we can still go out for a jog early in the morning and enjoying being outside when it's 100 degrees as long as we are wet. And I never have to shovel
This post just made me realize how little we did this summer. We always seemed to be busy, but can't think of any realy highlghts we had. Though this past Sunday I did head to Camden to meet a friend and we had lunch then took a schooner tour which was very "Maine" and a lot of fun. Even the drive there was nice.
DH and I still feel like tourists sometimes and are often in awe of how lucky we feel to live in such a beautiful area of the world. Many of our memories are filled with family and friends coming to visit - we are such nerdy tour guides, trying to prove to our guests that it was worth leaving NY to come here...and I think we have a lot of them convinced we made the right choice!
I would say all of my favorite summer memories this year took place on days where we were able to get out on the water - ferry rides, sailboat tour...I grew up on Long Island and rarely had the chance to go out on a boat! We take advantage now every chance we get, always joking that we are on the hunt for some "boat friends."
Our best Maine summer day was at my parents' cottage right on the ocean. The whole vacation vibe was really going strong, and we were all in great moods and the sun was shining like crazy. We were out on the front deck overlooking the ocean and Jake and Katie were playing in the kiddie pool while we all hung out and drank coffee. No better way to wake up!
After that, we went out in the boat and my brother came too, which was really fun. We went to Boothbay (and were spotted by a fellow Nestie!) and hung out them came home. The only downside of the day was that neither kid tolerated McSeagull's restaurant very well, but other than that it was perfect.

We've had a few really great, gorgeous summer days out at camp with Matt's family ... hot but not super humid, sunny, kids in good moods, etc.
Pretty much any time I am out there I think how lucky we are to live in Maine and that his family has the camp, it's been a godsend on weekends! Free entertainment for the little dude, his sister and cousin = priceless.
