MI ladies

Jeff and I have decided to spend a week in MI for our vacation and I'm wondering if any of you have any recommendations on where to go. We are going to spend a few days at the cottage near South Haven but want to go other places as well. Maybe somewhere in the UP? Let me know what areas you wouldn't want to miss if you were going on a trip in your state! We will of course have B with us. It will be a while before I get back on to check this so don't think im ignoring you! TIA!! PS we are doing this on short notice and are probably going in 2 weeks

Re: MI ladies

  • Metro Detroit!! Specifically a little town to the north .... j/k..

    My favorite place to vacation in MI is Glen Arbor/Sleeping Bear Dunes. We go at least once a year. There's a great public beach in Empire (not far), and I love Leland and Suttons Bay also. Wine country!!!

    Also, Traverse City is a lot of fun, for more hustle and bustle.

    We're going to Petoskey this weekend, and while I've never been, I've heard that it's fantastic and beautiful!

    I have camped throughout the UP at State Parks. LOVE the Pictured Rocks area, Taquamenon Falls, Sault Ste Marie, and Mackinac Island. We just went to the island for the day though, and stayed on the mainland in the UP (I can't remember the campground we were at, but it was the only one that wasn't a state park).

    This was going to be my suggestion. We camped in St. Ignace and took the ferry over to Mackinac Island for the day. The other day we drove up to Taquamenon Falls and Sault Ste Marie -- you can easily see both in the same day. Obviously you won't be camping, but you can look into hotels in either Mackinac City or St. Ignace.

  • Not an MI girl, but on Good Morning America, Sleeping Bear Dunes in northern MI was listed as the most beautiful place in America...

    I absolutely agree. It's spectacular!! The UP is beautiful too, but honestly, I get goosebumps thinking about the views at Sleeping Bear. Seriously!

  • How long are you guys going to be in MI? What you should really do is have Brynn meet her boyfriend for the first time!! Wink I'd be willing to drive wherever for a playdate as long as I have B that weekend!

  • A little late to the party but I agree with Sleeping Bear and Traverse City 2 of my favorite spots. I have yet to go to the UP (I know 36 years and never been shame on me and my family). Also there is the little town of Shelby about 1/2 way up the coastline to Traverse which is home to the Silver Lake sand dunes and Little Point Sable Lighthouse which just happens to be my favorite lighthouse [:)}

    If you guys make arrangements for a playdate let me know I would love to have you ladies get to meet Maddy as well Smile
