Invasion of the MIL

My MIL is coming down for the ENTIRE WEEK next week to watch Jane because daycare is closed.  I've known about it for months but the panic is setting in.  I've never spent that long with her.  I've never had anyone stay at my house that long.

Of course, we only need her on the M, W, F but she can't just do that, oh no.  Nor can she just come on Monday and leave on Friday, no no no.  She's coming this weekend..........and leaving next weekend.  Girlfriend lives less than an hour away.   It's ridiculous.

So, I have to spend the weekend with her, all day Tuesday and Thursday (I don't work remember,  but she'll still be here...) and then the next weekend.

Hold me.

Re: Invasion of the MIL

  • GAH!

This was somewhat understandable until I got to the part where she lives less than an hour away.

    Good luck! No stress eating!

  • Yeah, I'd totally make up some shizz about an important meeting at work and go shopping my myself on Tuesday.  That's far too long to spend with her - especially since she only lives an hour away!

Oh, I could just tell her I want to go to the movies alone.  She'd totally watch Jane but I feel badly b/c she's already judgey about me being a working Mom (she cried when I told her I was going back to work) so to elect to spend more time away from Jane (when it would really be time away from her...).  Not so much.

Jane and I are going to have our usual Tues/Thurs and if MIL wants to come (down to the pool most likely) then she is welcome.  If she wants to stay home and take a break, that is fine too!

  • I hear you.  I was going to say do something one of those days by yourself since shes there, but I understand the judging all too well.

    Gotcha - makes sense :)

  • My condolences :) I would suddenly have plans on the weekend that you just can't miss! I don't know how I'm going to take my MIL for that long once the baby comes. I know she's going to spend a week with us.

  • I would totally schedule a massage or mani/pedi to de-stress for either Thursday afternoon or Saturday.

I have some MIL extended visit issues coming up and I am dreading them.  I don't care how much you like someone or how helpful they are, it is difficult having another person(s) staying in your house for anything more than a weekend.

  • Oh ugh. Not fun. This situation sounds almost exactly like what is currently happening to my boss. Her MIL watches her daughter every Monday/Tuesday, but even though she only lives an hour away, she shows up Friday night and stays through Tuesday night. Makes my boss out of her mind.

and THIS would be why I never considered using MIL instead of daycare because she'd have been here all week!

You are a smart woman Wink. I don't know how my boss deals with it.

  • Ahhh!! I feel so bad for you! :(

However, I am excited to hear the crazy stories that you're bound to have. :)
