Next Tuesday is essentially our last day of daycare at our providers house. Both boys will be in school full time this year. For random days off, we plan to use the Extended Care program at school as daycare on those days, but we may occasionally use our daycare lady for long school vacations (maybe Christmas/Spring Break). She mentioned to DH last week that she's thinking of retiring after this school year, and we've already sort of tossed around the idea of doing a day camp type of thing next summer to keep the boys with kids they know from school/are their same age, so this really could be one of the last times they are there.
She has taken care of Christian since he was 7 weeks old, Noah since 5 weeks old...and I'm now crying at my desk typing this!!!. UGH! It's going to be really hard not going there everyday! I'm probably more emotional about it then they are, but she is their 'Other Grandma Carol" (MIL is grandma Carol too!
so has obviously been a big part of their lives!
I really want to do something special for her next week on our last day, but no idea what! She's a pretty simple person, nothing fancy or flashing in the house (except for the things she buys for the kids!). All her kids are grown and gone, so its just her and her DH. Her birthday is also on the 1st of Sept, so want to acknowledge that as well since we won't be there (and she's actually having Noah's bday today at her house, even though its a month away because she doesn't want to leave him out!)
I was thinking maybe a GC to NFM? Maybe $100 or more? Is that too much? Not enough? Is that not really a 'goodbye, thanks for taking care of my kids for the last 7 years" type of gift? Not sentimental enough?
I'm at a loss. Any suggestions???
