XP: Airplane activities for preschoolers
We're flying to Arizona in a couple of weeks with our 3 and 4 year old girls. It will be their first time on an airplane which is exciting, but one of our legs will be 4 hours long! Any tips for activities to help keep them occupied on such a long flight? We will be bringing our portable DVD player (w/headphones) as well as crayons/coloring books. But was wondering if anyone had any other great ideas to share that may not be so obvious. (We'll have a 2-hour layover too and then another flight - ugh - yes, we're crazy!) TIA!
Re: XP: Airplane activities for preschoolers
We had a 40 hour trip (over 20 hours on a plane with a kid who cannot sit still)
I went to the dollar store because they have lots of small toys.
I recommend one of those boards that you use the plastic pen on and then erase it. The mini ones are great.
Also - colorforms are good. Some of the smaller toy stores have travel packs with these colorforms.
The tiny play doh is great (after you sanitize the airplane tray) They even come with mini toys to use with it.
I made up ziplocs (one for each leg of the flight). I brought blank paper and put crayons, markers, a glue stick, stickers and shapes that I precut before the flight (since you can't take scissors). My son did lots of projects with these. I even had googley eyes and other cool things like cotton balls and some small dried pasta. The dry glue stick is so convenient.
A mini magnifying glass can also be fun.
Good luck - hopefully they'll sleep a bit. Our son slept for 2 hours of the 20 hour flight.
