Re: Your favorite summer Maine day from this summer....

  • We've had so many this year! I think our most Summer eventful day though was a few weeks ago when we had breakfast on the river, took the boat out and cruised up the coast. Came home and while peanut napped we ran around the woods with the dogs. Then when she woke up we hit camp and BBQ'd and had a nice early evening swim. Hit Shaw's Ridge for ice cream and headed home. Put the little one to bed and DH and I sat on the back deck and watched the deer go by. Was one of those days that just rocked!
  • We've spent a couple days this summer at the beach!  This past weekend was the best by far.  We had a sun shelter so it wasn't very hot and T was walking so she could enjoy exploring more...even though I have to push/show her that exploring is a good thing.  She is sooo cautious!  Can't wait for next weekend though.  I am going to stay at Kidney Pond in Baxter State Park for a few days with my aunt.  We spent lots of time there when I was just out of high school.  Can't wait to show Taylor the woods!

  • Okay, I want to play even though I didn't go to Maine this summer because all I do is complain about how long and hot the summers are here in Austin. But, I actually had a great time and many moments were I felt lucky to live here. My favorite memory was taking DD to the sprinkler park. She loved it! She would run around from sprinkler to sprinkler, getting pelted in the face at times, and laughing through it all.

I felt lucky to live in a place where, even in the worst season of the year, we can still go out for a jog early in the morning and enjoying being outside when it's 100 degrees as long as we are wet. And I never have to shovel ;)

  • I feel like I've been working so much I've hardly been able to enjoy my summer at all. The one thing that comes to mind is that I try to go up and visit my aunt and uncles' "camp" in Belgrade on Messalonskee Lake every year. The "camp" is really just one nice big new RV on a piece of land they own and a smaller older one that's been there for about 35 years and is in rough shape, but just being on the water makes it a fantastic place to spend time. We take our pups up and they can just run free or swim while DH and I lie on the dock or kayak or cook food on the grill. It's so awesome. Last time I was up there I was reading a book at the end of the dock and I looked up and there were 9 loons swimming about 10 feet from me. It was so cool!
  • This post just made me realize how little we did this summer. We always seemed to be busy, but can't think of any realy highlghts we had. Though this past Sunday I did head to Camden to meet a friend and we had lunch then took a schooner tour which was very "Maine" and a lot of fun. Even the drive there was nice.

  • DH and I still feel like tourists sometimes and are often in awe of how lucky we feel to live in such a beautiful area of the world.  Many of our memories are filled with family and friends coming to visit - we are such nerdy tour guides, trying to prove to our guests that it was worth leaving NY to come here...and I think we have a lot of them convinced we made the right choice!

I would say all of my favorite summer memories this year took place on days where we were able to get out on the water - ferry rides, sailboat tour...I grew up on Long Island and rarely had the chance to go out on a boat!  We take advantage now every chance we get, always joking that we are on the hunt for some "boat friends."

  • My favorite days are always the ones spent at Higgins Beach with my family. We rent a cottage right on the sand for a week in July every summer, this year it was during one of the two 100 degree weeks in July, lots of sand and ocean time!

  • Our best Maine summer day was at my parents' cottage right on the ocean.  The whole vacation vibe was really going strong, and we were all in great moods and the sun was shining like crazy.  We were out on the front deck overlooking the ocean and Jake and Katie were playing in the kiddie pool while we all hung out and drank coffee.  No better way to wake up!

After that, we went out in the boat and my brother came too, which was really fun.  We went to Boothbay (and were spotted by a fellow Nestie!) and hung out them came home.  The only downside of the day was that neither kid tolerated McSeagull's restaurant very well, but other than that it was perfect.

  • We've had a few really great, gorgeous summer days out at camp with Matt's family ... hot but not super humid, sunny, kids in good moods, etc. :) Pretty much any time I am out there I think how lucky we are to live in Maine and that his family has the camp, it's been a godsend on weekends! Free entertainment for the little dude, his sister and cousin = priceless.

  • One of my favorite days was when we made last minutes plans to have dinner on the beach at Crescent and finished up with smores at the house.   Between strolling the beach looking for treasures and really, really great conversation it really was the best day.
