Quick Rant

I don't know where else to post this and since it just happened for the 4th time this morning I just have to say something.

I'm AMAZED by the amount of people that don't know what a "receptionist" is. I have had to tell four people today, "You need to see the receptionist." and then I motion to her desk which is on a raised platform right in the middle of our lobby and they look back at me say, "Who? What's that?"

WTH? I don't know how else to phrase it. I guess I could say, "You need to see that lady." and point. Crying

Re: Quick Rant

  • I hate that I have been called a receptionist! Yes, I sit behind a window and greet people when they come in the door, but I do SO MUCH MORE than answer phones! At least call me "the girl in accounts receivable"!

I can't agree with this more! I do SO much more than answer phones, and to be honest, I pick up everyone else's slack when they are out, or swamped. I do everyone's job as well as my own. Being a receptionist is like being the office mother. You take care of everyone else and the office.

  • Aww I'm sorry! I didn't intend to offend anyone. Our receptionist (my job until 6 weeks ago) really does answer telephones and log in visitors. That's it. Our lobby is really busy (it's a city office building) and that definitely keeps that desk occupied. Either way though, a visitor should at least know what the word means.

  • Checking in with a receptionist is almost.... common sense.

A receptionist is sort of like a home base person. They are connected to anyone, know what is going on and can reach anyone.

  • Yes...also a receptionist/accounts payable here....I think some people here are afraid of me...and I am not a scary person! Big Smile
