Hair Routine?

We talked about make up last week.. So what's your hair routine? How often do you wash/cut/color/etc? What's your typical styling, if any?

Re: Hair Routine?

  • I have A LOT of hair, so I usually try to just tame it most days and throw it in a pony tail. I shower at night and wash about every three days and let it air dry, except for my bangs. I blow dry and fix my bangs every night. I typically straighten my hair, which takes about 30 mins. I will also scrunch it, which is a lot faster and easy. My hair is pretty curly/wavy so it holds curl well. Two nights ago I tried the heatless headband curls they're raving about on ML and they turned out great.

I get it cut around every two months, bangs cut once a month. I usually color it on my own, but I haven't colored it in a while.

I guess I don't really have a routine since I do something different to my hair everytime I fix it.

ETA: I never use the same shampoo and conditioner for long, but right now I'm using the nexxus split end repair line. I use Aussie hairspray and TIGI curl creme in the blue bottle. My face shampoo is Redken All Soft, but I haven't been able to find it lately. I also have been using a cheapo bottle of "Morrocan Oil" from Sallys.

  • My hair is a hot mess right now. I'm growing out my pixie cut so it's kind of short and fluffy right now. I wash with Loreal 2 in 1 shampoo/conditioner every morning and use sytling goo (not quite puddy or gel) and Panteen anti-humidity hairspray. I've got to go get it trimmed this weekend so I don't wind up with a mullet. No coloring for me.

  • I shampoo and condition every morning. I usually buy different stuff each time I need to replace the bottles - I like the change. (Although, right now I'm using the new Garnier Pure and Clean or something like that. I feel like I'm losing more hair than normal with this one so it probably won't make the rotation again later.)

On work days I blow dry my hair. On the weekends I try to give it a break.

I get my hair cut about every 6 months to a year. My hair is in a longish phase right now  which  I am loving. I'll keep it long until I get tired of it then I will chop off enough to donate and go pretty short. This is my typical cycle.

No color, although I've toyed with the idea of reddish highlights. Unfortunately it's $$ and I've heard red is the quickest to fade.

  • I wash my hair every 3-4 days. Dry shampoo is my best friend (my favorite is Suave). I put mousse on my roots & moroccan oil on my ends. It takes 15-20 minutes to blow dry it completely out... my hair hold water like crazy. Then I either flat iron it or use my curling iron to slightly curl my ends under.

I get it cut & highlighted every 8ish weeks. My grays be showin', yo.

I use Suave Naturals Rosemary & Mint for shampoo & conditioner. LOVE IT!

  • My dad is 59 and still has no grays (except for facial hair). I'm hoping I got that from him! My mom went completely gray a long time ago.
  • My mom started going gray at 18. She'd be completely gray if she didn't color it.

My dad started going gray in his 30s. He's completely gray now.

Wonder who I take after... Huh?

  • I wash and condition every other day.  Sometimes I'll push it to a 3rd day when I can.  I use Suave Professionals shampoo and conditioner, but will use a dandruff shampoo when I need it.  (about once every 10ish days.)

I was getting my hair colored every 8-10 weeks.  I just do whatever strikes me when I go to the salon.  In the past year or so, I've slowed down b/c it was getting pricey.

As far as styling, it depends.  My favorite is to dry and straighten it.  When I'm lazy, I just put a little moroccan oil in, let it go and it dries wavy.  Sometimes I scrunch it with some John Freida anti-frizz curly stuff.

  • I wash and condition every morning. I brush it and leave it wet. I blow dry it for special occasions. I get it cut every 10 weeks or so. Usually I highlight it every spring and go brown every fall but stopped when I got pregnant.

  • I wash every other day so it doesn't get too dry and frizzy. It's very fine and soft, so any humidity makes it blow up like Bozo.

    Cut every 3 months.

Color when I notice roots--I started going gray at 18.

Ever since having Michael, I just have to put it up. He yanks it out otherwise. I'll be glad when he's past that stage, but I'm not sure what age that is. 15? Ugh.

Also, I have little wispys all over from my hair growing back after massive postpartum hair loss.

  • I wash/condition my hair once every 3-4 days and alternate between Aveda Color Conserve and John Frieda Brilliant Brunette.  The cost of Aveda is starting to get old though, so I think when it's gone this time, it might have to be gone for good.  I usually get my hair colored & cut once every 3-4 months.  On the days I wash it, I blow-dry it with a round brush.  On the days I don't wash it, I either straighten & wear it down, curl & wear it half-up, or just do a low pony or bun.  I SO wish I had wash & wear hair!!

  • I wash and condition in the shower every 2 or 3 days. That day I also use a mouse+leave-in conditioner and leave the curly mess alone or slap in some bobby pins and/or a headband. The in-between days get a bun or a ponytail unless by some miracle when I brush it out it decides to play nice. On fancy days/events I typically straighten it.

The other day I thought that I haven't blow-dried my hair in probably 8 or 9 years. And then I thought "I'll get up tomorrow morning and blow dry it. Just for giggles." But then I woke up and thought that 45mins of sleep sounded much better.

As for how often I cut/color... heh.. I need to color again, but the last time was such a fiasco that I'm gun-shy. I have tufts of gray, but they are mostly along the part on the right side of my head. Which is why I now part on the other side.  haha.

Cut? Well. The last time I cut my hair, I donated 8" to Pantene's Beautiful Lengths program. Yesterday I measured my hair, and I can do so again and be back to the same length. So I guess it's been about a year or more. lol

Can't remember if I told you or not, but every time I've seen you lately I've meant to tell you how cute your hair looks with the natural wavy/curly thing you have going on. I like it a lot!

  • My routine consists of washing my hair every couple of days and then combing it and pulling it back into a ponytail.  I know, I'm just full of style.

    I was wondering the same.

  • A fancy dancy smoothing serum. It helps with frizz and adds shine. The expensive stuff is awesome, my cheapo bottle does in a pinch.

  • Thanks, CD! I've fought the curl forever... still trying to figure out what to do with it, but I'm letting it win. lol

For me the moroccan oil only works for maaaybe an hour, even inside.  Last time I got my hair cut, they used the oil and I was so impressed I almost bought a giant tub of really high-end stuff. But I decided to wait and come back a week or so later. I'm so glad I didn't buy it!

  • Wash every other day. Air dry on work nights. Usually wear it half up/down or all up to work. If I have any important meetings, I will straighten it. I don't color, but I've thought about adding some highlights. I have it cut every 3 or 4 months.

I'll have to remember this once my hair is long again.

  • Wash three days a week.  I shower at night and let it air dry.  Straighten in the morning.  Lots of baby powder/cocoa powder mix and dry shampoo.
