Thoughts on this name?

Wow, we're an exciting group today.

I just saw a name on Facebook and I can't decide how I feel about it - for a girl Elleigh James. I'm down with the James part, but Elleigh confuses me. Pronounced "elly" I assume.

I think I would love to write this name - very flowy, but for some reason I just can't get into it. Am I alone on this?

Re: Thoughts on this name?

  • I am not a fan of the spelling if it is pronounced Elly.  Why not just name the kid Elly and make everything much simpler.
  • I'm not a fan of the spelling at all. It's just too weird. The name itself isn't bad but not my style. And ditto cschissell, if it's pronounced Elly, why not just spell it that way?

PS. In my head I pronounced it Aaliyah....like the singer.

  • I am just assuming "elly". I have no idea how else that could be pronounced. I guess her grandma was Ella and her middle name is Michelle. Not sure where the "igh" part comes from.

The girl is super cute and sweet and I really want to like this name because of her, but I'm having a hard time wrapping my brain around it.

Hmmmm....interesting though! Now I think I like it even less though since people won't know how to pronounce it OR spell it.

  • The correct spelling of this name is "Ellie" I have 2 friends who have named their daughters this.. I think it's adorable.. But that spelling is horrible!! I don't understand why people have to make the spelling unique... All it does is confuses people to the pronunciation. I've also seem Emileigh, Kayleigh... That trend. BARF.

I admit I am totally traditional when it comes to spelling...and names.

  • haha at first glance I thought it was E Lie and I was like why would they name a boys boys name for a girl...however that makes more sense.

And my aunt named her daughter Ellie...so exactly why would you spell it that way because it's not one of those where you know it's a certain name.

Not everything has to be different all of the time.

So if it is Ellie I like the name but not the spelling.

  • I thought Eli too. I don't mind Ellie/Elly James, but hate the spelling!

  • i thought e-lie as well. but that just confuses me because of the lee sound that "leigh" usually has.
  • For some reason I really don't like the spelling leigh. So I'm not a fan of it.
