Appropriate Heel Height
Hey, I'm new here so I'm sorry if this has been asked or if I am not following any sort of etiquette.
My question is, how high of a heel is appropriate for a 9-5 job?

I'd say anything from a pair of flats to probably a standard heel on a pump. That's about a 21/2" high heel.
There's heels of all shapes and sizes -- a chunky heel will be the most comfortable since the hell and sole of the shoe it more or less mimics the sole of your foot.

I agree with PP - it's not necessarily about the height of the heel as much as it's about the professionalism of the shoe overall.
For instance, I wear a 5" heel to work regularly on this particular shoe:

It's not the heel but the outfit that matters. I work for the city where I live and deal with the public all day long and yet I wear shoes that range from a ballet flat to 5". I've worn wedges and chunky heels and stilletos but they all work depending on how I wear them. I've worn 4" ruffly black suede heels and 3.5" purple snakeskin heels and flat leopard print ballets. Just pair them with the appropriate pants and/or business appropriate dress or knee length skirt and you will be fine. My general rule is to look at myself in a full length mirror and think, "Would I wear this outfit on a date with my husband or to cocktails with the girls?" If the answer to either is YES than I won't wear it to work.
Oh...and if there is glitter on the shoe then it's a definite no for work.
I really love high heels. I'm 5'7 and most of my heels are about 4- 4.5 inches. They aren't crazy going out shoes, just the normal black, brown, nude patent. They aren't chunky heels, but they aren't stilettos either; they are kind of in the middle. I usually wear knee length dresses and skirts, or pants.
Right now, I'm the only young professional that is a woman so it is hard for me to compare with other people in my office.
Sounds to me like you will be just fine. I would go ahead and wear them and not think twice about it. As long as your clothing is modest and your attitude is professional you have nothing to worry about, just double check the company dress code to make sure they don't have anything specific about open toed shoes or an open back.
From your description, "normal black, brown, nude patent. They aren't chunky heels, but they aren't stilettos either;" it sounds like they are professional looking pumps with a higher than average heel. No problem at all. Wear them and enjoy them!

I love the shoe you posted and would definitely wear it to work. I also think it depends on your job a lot. I know you said you don't have other young females to compare wardrobe or attire. How dressed up or conservative do the men go though?
I guess I'm just saying if you worked at a fashion magazine, different things would be appropriate than if you worked in a law office, as I'm sure you already understand. Telling us your career might help us better answer the question. But the shoe posted I think would work in any career and is totally appropriate.
