Q for cat owners

Do any of you use the litter pan liners?  If so, did it take a while for your cat to get used to them?  Any tips?

We just started using them and our cat is having trouble.  I don't know if it's the smaller box, or the liners, but it's not all going in the box (sorry!).  I switched the liner to a bigger box in hopes that that will solve the issue, but it seems like stuff is actually getting caught in the folds of the liner, which is part of the issue.  It's really unpleasant, I may just have to go back to the regular scooping method, but I really want this to work!

Also, anyone use one of those automatic litter boxes?  I would be willing to drop the money if I knew it worked.  I'm afraid my cat would be scared of it when it started to move, and then refuse to use it.  Which would of course be bad.

Re: Q for cat owners

  • I just regular scoop. The liners seem like too much hassle because my cats get friggin crazy in the their box. My mom tried the auto box but ditched it because the cats wouldn't go in it and started using her shower as a littler box.
  • I scoop daily and use a liner just to minimize mess when I ditch the old litter each week.  I tried these sieve liners - there was a pack of 10 and all you're supposed to do is lift the top one and all the 'clean' litter falls through back into the box but they sucked.

  • I just scoop daily too. Our oldest cat had problems when she was younger with not always making it in the box, but she has outgrown it. I think as she was growing she didn't realize she needed more room, maybe.
  • We also scoop daily using just a regular old litter box and our cat does fine.  We change our litter often.  The biggest problem we have is sometimes she doesn't completely bury it so it doesn't clump properly, but that's rare.

Maybe ask your vet or someone at the pet store where you bought the liners for tips to help your kitty use them properly?  Does the box have any tips or instructions?  Also, when in doubt, just google it lol.  You can find the answer to anything.

  • I used the liners for a bit and my older cat HATED them.  She would sit in there scratching and meowing, so I finally ditched them.  I've been reading a lot lately about litterbox issues b/c my older cat has started pooping on the floor just outside the box.  I've found a lot of articles saying that cats don't like the liners b/c they interfere with their ability to dig and toss the litter around.  I just don't think they're worth the hassle.

Yeah, I have heard her scratching a lot more lately.  Maybe she does hate them...I guess this little experiment is over!

  • I used them once, only because my grandparents gave them to me. I just scoop in a paper lunch bag or biodegradable doggy poop bag and toss in the trash toter outside. My cats would be scared of the automatic litter box.

  • We usually scoop into grocery bags, I just thought it would be nice to stop scooping!

  • My cat is an angel and her poop doesn't stink! Stick out tongue

I seriously think I won the kitty lottery. I only have to scoop once a week. Her poo is always in the same spot. Her pee is always in the same spot. I use liners so I don't ever have to actually clean the litter box.

Then again, I got her when she was 5 months and started with the liner right away. The poo not stinking thing is just a miracle. When I cat sit for my friend's cats, those kitties have way stinky poo and I scoop pretty much right after.

My cat is actually really good, most of the time.  She had this same problem (peeing outside the box) when we first got her, but it went away quickly.  We have a huge box so we don't have to scoop it nearly as often as most people.
