Sooo....no job :-(

Unfortunately, between me and the other person, they picked the other person.  The principal did tell me though that it was the hardest decision he's had to make in 28 years as a principal, and that if he has another position open he will call me right away.  So, that's nice, but it still hurts to be "not good enough" if you know what I mean.

Anyways, I was bummed, and I had a hair appointment, so I took the opportunity to cut about 10 inches off to donate!  My head feels so much lighter and I think I needed the change to feel better.  I will PIP later when I find my camera.

Thanks for all your vibes, and I know I'll find something.  Maybe subbing for a year will help me be a better teacher when I get my own class.

  • I'm so sorry to read this! You will find something, like Val said!! and I know it's not guaranteed or anything, but subbing can be good experience! I wish you could have our job market, we're always hiring teachers in NoVA (b/c of high turnover & growth rates).

  • Oh, Jen, I am sorry to hear this!  Stay positive, something will work out for you.  Are you going to try to sub?  It could be a great way to make some connections and see both the good and the bad that other teachers do!

Post pics of your new hair when you get a chance.  I have a haircut tomorrow, but I will not be taking off 10 inches, maybe 3 or 4 tops!

  • Ugh, I'm sorry. I know hoe frustrating it can be not having a teaching job. Keep looking, and try to get your foot in the door at a few districts as much as possible. Something will turn up eventually.

I'm excited to see your hair!!

  • I'm so sorry.  It definitely sucks being second choice.  Hopefully something comes your way soon!

  • Uggh...The interviewing process for teaching can be so frustrating. Best of luck in your continued search. And you're right about subbing. There is a lot you can learn about classroom management/organization from subbing. If you put yourself out there, you're also bound to get a few long term subbing jobs, which could lead to some good connections. Don't give up and know that you're not the only one that has had that kind of luck with finding a teaching job.

I bet your new cut feels great! Definitely post before/after pictures!

  • So sorry, but I am sure a more perfect job will come along for you.  Subbing can definitely have advantages (you can work on classroom technique, make a great impression in a school, and find out which schools you would actually want to work in)!  GL and I can't wait to see the hair cut.

  • So sorry, I know it's so frustrating, especially with the job market.  Keep your chin up though, it sounds like something might work out in the same district from what he said.
  • Bummer.  I am so sorry to hear this.  Hang in there and everything will work out!!  I agree subbing can help you meet people and network!
  • Don't give up hope yet! I didn't get the job I interviewed for on Monday either, but woke up today to my phone ringing- it was another school calling to do a phone screening interview. Plus I just went back online and found more jobs that were posted yesterday and this morning. So districts are still looking for people like us! Hopefully we'll find something! If not, subbing isn't too bad- I liked parts of it. I liked having fewer responsibilities (like lesson planning/ parent contact/ etc) but at the same time missed having my own classroom with all the additional responsibilities. I did however learn a lot, both about teaching and myself. I got to see which areas/grades I really enjoyed. In fact I'm starting a course next week to start an endorsement to be a school librarian!

  • Thanks everyone!  School starts next week around here, so there aren't really any positions left, but I will keep searching as I get on sub lists.  I kind of figured this is what I would end up doing since it's my first year, but that second interview just really had me hoping.  I found out that the other person had student taught at that school, so that's probably why he got the job and I didn't.  :-(  Blah.  Ohwell, I am staying positive and looking forward!!!!  Thank you everyone for your support, it really helped keep me from getting too down on myself!
