Wedding Shower?

I just got an invite to a wedding shower this morning, and I've never been to one before, wondering what to expect? The bride also had a shower in Conn.that I was not invited to (we're friends, but not super close or anything). The invite lists where they are registered. I'm assuming this is something you buy gifts for?

Re: Wedding Shower?

  • Yes, I usually buy something from the registry for the shower and then for the wedding will give cash or gift card to wherever they registered. You don't have to though. I got a few things at my shower that weren't on my registry, that I loved. Just depends on your preference.
  • and where as you don't usually bring the gift to the wedding (have it shipped to the B&G if you are not doing something that fits in a card (not that I always follow this rule)) you do bring it to the shower as a shower is primarily a gift giving event where you are given food, might play a game, and sometimes get a party favor.

A bridal shower may not be the most fun way to spend a Saturday, but it's not the least fun.

  • Thanks ladies! I'm used to bridal showers, but not wedding showers I guess, where the men and women are both invited. I'm sure it will be fun :-)

Interesting, I wasn't aware that if it's co-ed it's called a wedding shower. I have always used bridal shower and wedding shower interchangeably.

I have been to one, but it was just a casual bbq. Everyone still brought gifts though like you would a bridal shower.

This!  And I was shocked that you had never been to a bridal shower before and didn't know whether to bring a gift or not!

Same here! I've heard bridal and wedding shower used interchangeably, oh and I've also heard "Jack and Jill" or "co-ed bridal shower" for ones where the men are invited. Usually most men I now find a reason to RSVP "no" though, haha.

  • haha, yes I've been to bridal showers!! And I know she just had one, so I know its not in place of a bridal shower, it's in addition to. That's why I was confused. I guess I was thinking, "so, a gift for a bridal shower, wedding shower, AND the wedding" if someone were invited to all three. Just seemed excessive. It may be bc her shower was out of state, this is kind of for those of us who wouldn't have gone down? Not sure.... either way, a gift it is!

Wait, three gift giving events... that seems excessive. Unless she were a super close friend, she'd get ONE shower gift and ONE wedding gift. If you've already done the bridal shower, the pleasure of your company ought to be enough. Or you could get something cheap like thank you note stuff or, um, I have no idea, but something under $20!

I get the feeling that she wasn't invited to the OOT shower and didn't give a gift yet. I would also speculate that the guest lists for the 2 showers only overlap for the bridal party, if that, but yes, Bre, if you sent a gift down for the last shower don't get one for this shower too, you have done enough.
