BF question

Soooo....how much bigger do your bewbs get after your milk comes in? Just wondering, if you don't mind sharing!

Re: BF question

  • I was a 36C before I got pregnant... postpartum I was up to a 38DD.  Now that I'm done BFing and losing some of the weight (finally!) I'm down to a 38D.

  • I was actually talking to my Mom and sister about this the other day - theirs didn't get any bigger at all! They were producing milk, but there was no change in boob size.

  • It really varies from woman to woman.  I couldn't give you an answer like "twice as big as they were before" or something. I haven't worn a real bra yet but I'm about to buy some nursing bras for going back to work, and I'm going to get 34Bs.  I was a 34A pre-pregnancy.  When my boobs are totally drained of milk, I'm pretty sure I'm almost an A again.  When they're really full, I'm probably damn close to a C.  I've taken several measurements when my boobs are full and empty and a B cup is the happy medium.

When I was engorged during the first week, my boobs looked huge and hard and plastic because they were stretched so much with the new milk. The engorgement died down after a week or two of solid breastfeeding, but I still have engorgement problems sometimes.  When your boobs are really full if you haven't nursed or pumped in a while, they can get fairly hard and somewhat big -- I swear I look like I have implants if I go 7 hours without nursing (which I did last night because Kyler actually slept almost that long.)

I may just be a weird case though, so I'm sure more comments from other moms will give you a better idea of what to expect.

  • I went up one cup size while pregnant and one more while BF. I am still BF and still two cup sizes bigger than before getting PG.

Pretty much all of this was the same for me. Now that I'm slowly weaning though, my boobs are definitely much closer to the 34A they were before getting pregnant. On a side/personal note, it was awesome having real boobs for a while there, sigh.

  • Thanks girls:)

I'm already up to a D cup (and sometimes falling out of that) from a B. I'm a little scared of my bewbs getting even bigger than they are now once my milk comes in!

Is there an ideal time to get a nursing bra? I'd like to have at least one before I deliver, but I have no clue what size I might be by then. Any thoughts on that?

  • I went up a full cup size from a 38C to a 38D, and I've stayed there even after I quit BFing.
  • I've always heard not to buy a nursing bra until the end of the pregnancy so that your chest hopefully doesn't get too much bigger.

I still can fit in my prepregnancy bras, but if my breasts are full/engorged, there is no denying they are bigger (and my right one will even start to fall out of my bra if I don't pump/feed off of it asap, my right one is an overachiever, and my left can't keep up!)

  • I was a 34G before pregnancy. I am now a 36H+ (I refuse to go any larger or find out what I actually am). When I am full I spill out but I dont care... No stores or places carry nursing bras that seem to work for me so I wear a regular bra at work and take it off to pump. At home I just wore Nursing tanks. I bought some from motherhood prior to baby (week or two prior) and then bought two from Le Leche League on Zulily when Charlotte was here.

They're Boston-local, but are available online.  it's the only place where my rather large-busted friend can get her bras, and it's where I went to get my nursing bras as well.  Hopefully it might help you in The Great Bra Search!

  • MB I love you! I will have Mark pick up something while he is there to ease the search. I will buy something and if I need to return it I will!

  • Rach- I went from a B to a D in pregnancy and I'm probably now a DD. The bravado nursing tanks are amazing. They were suggested to me by a few niners and I can't say enough about them. I only wear nursing tanks right now so I'm not too much help in the bra department.
  • I got my first nursing bra at target b/c I didn't want to spend money on a good one and it not fit (and not be able to return it).

    Pre-Pregnancy I was a 36 C/D

During Pregnancy I went up to a 38DD

    And now I'm down to a 36 DD or a 38 D

For the first month or so, I was still a 38DD, but now that things have settled and my rib cage has shrunk back down, I'm a 36 again.  I have weird bewbs though, they measure a lot bigger than they look.
