Real Estate License

I am interested in getting my real estate license in Kansas. If anybody has any good advice to give me it would be greatly appreciated, good or bad. Where did you take your exams? How do you find a good company to start with? How much did it cost in the end?

 Thanks so much!

Re: Real Estate License

  • Every state's licensing is different, but between classes, exam fees, MLS fees, and E & O insurance expect to spend about $2,000 your first year...not including any desk fees...much of which is not tax deductible (classes can't be deducted).
  • Do you know the range of desk fees? I am considering getting my license online from this site, http://www.realestateexpress.com/prelicense/KS/prelicense_info.asp, do you have any advice about using something like this? Thanks for your response, please let me know if you have any more insights!

  • Desk fees can range from $35 a month to $125 a month depending on what you need, what they offer (technology, website, training, etc).  The company with the big balloon tends to be higher (like $1,500 a month) but they rarely take "new" agents...

I don't have any advice on schools because MN's licensing requirements are pretty strict so I had 90 hours of in class coursework.  30 hours before i could sit for the licensing exam...and the licensing exam was about $102, but I believe ours has gone up this year.
