Breaking a lease Q.

If a lease has a spot for owner comments stating the penalties for breaking the lease, and it is left completely blank...does that mean there is not a penalty?

Re: Breaking a lease Q.

  • It just means there is no penalty beyond the total rent due.  Some landlords will let you "buy out" of a lease.  That's where that would go.
  • So if we broke it in October & it ended it December, we would owe Oct, Nov & Dec rent?
  • depends on your landlord.  Most will only make you pay until a new tenant takes over.  Yes, they can hold you to the entire lease.
