Gourmet to Go/Caterers in Silver Spring/MoCo?

I'm hosting my mom's 70th birthday party in October and am looking for a place that I can have the entree and sides prepared and we can pick them up in the morning.  Our go-to place in CT was www.pastavita.com and I can't seem to find anything around here that is like this - most places that I have found online are actual full service caterers, which is not really what I am going for.

I'll be making the apps and desserts in advance, and could probably do the meal as well, but I don't have a ton of storage space and would really prefer just to order it as it is only for 16 people and the convenience is worth the cost to me for someone else to do it.

Any suggestions?

Re: Gourmet to Go/Caterers in Silver Spring/MoCo?

  • When we had my MIL's 70th birthday this spring, we ordered from Rockland's a la carte catering menu. For entree type food, we got grilled marinated chicken breasts, penne pasta with basil and tomatoes. We also did all the appetizers and sides from there. People actually really raved about the food. It wasn't too expensive and they delivered it.

I found a fair amount of restaurants actually have a la carte catering menus. That's a much better bet than trying to find a caterer, which we discovered was just way more money than we cared to spend.

ETA: We also considered Mama Lucia's, but since it was a surprise party and the food was going to be sitting for awhile, decided to go with things that didn't need to be kept warm.

  • I'd go with a restaurant that caters rather than a full-service caterer. If you're looking for pasta, I'd try Mamma Lucia - it's a local chain.

  • oooh, I love Mamma Lucia - I never even thought about a catering menu.  This could be a good plan.... I was definitely thinking of something like a chicken picatta and mabe a pasta with seafood type dish for the couple of vegetarians I've got.

    Thanks ladies!!

  • Try La Prima - my old office used to use them and they seem to do a bit of everything and their stuff is very good.

Yeah, we've used them for work. I think their catering offices are in College Park, so they'd probably do MoCo.

But, I kind of love Mamma Lucia's and would totally have them cater if I needed it.
