What if there were no Internet?

Suppose that tomorrow the Internet ceased to exist. How would your life be different? Would you be totally fine? Would your entire world fall apart? And what would you do instead of Nesting? ;)

Re: What if there were no Internet?

  • As I don't have everyone's phone number, I'd be very sad that I couldn't keep up with all of you.  I'd be on the phone a lot more and I'd spend time in the library looking stuff up.   And I'd read a ton more probably.  I would be fine as I lived before the internet was used and survived just wonderfully!
I like pineapples...they make life just so much more interesting.
  • Some days I honestly think I'd prefer it! I'm on too much. I wish I had more "real" interactions with people most days or that I could force myself to get up off my butt and do the housework that is always calling or any of the many activities that I really enjoy but delay becuase "I'll just check IN/FN/FB/my blog reader"... I keep meaning to just turn the computer off for a week but I worry that I'd miss something I actually need to know about. not sure what that would be, though, as everyone who I really would be upset if I missed something from knows my phone number and how to get in touch with me in an emergency....
  • I'm pretty sure I would survive just fine, but I would have a lot more time on my hands! It does make everything much more convenient though.

  • I've already gone through a period that I didn't have internet (or a working computer), so I'm sure I'd be fine. I'd have a lot more time to focus on keeping my house clean, and finally finishing the baby blanket I've been making since before D was born.

  • I wouldn't be able to talk to my family for hours a week and I would no longer be able to keep up with friends back home. It would make living abroad incredibly lonely. I have no odea how people did this before Skype and email.
  • I would survive well enough.  I was well into my 20's before the internet became mainstream and around 30 by the time Google came around and made the internet fun.  I was 34 before I truly discovered the joys of internet shopping (laid up with a broken ankle at Christmas time so I took the plunge.

ETA: Although, all that being said, Gblake and I couldn't get a hold of each other last night because the Nest was done and the phone #s were in our PMs.

  • I'd watch more TV and read more.  Honestly, that's part of why I need to get out of Tstan.  It's so much harder to live abroad without good internet.  Even though I'm not really any further than when I was in Dubai, I feel so much more disconnected from friends and family back home.
