Clicky Poll: Obama's vaca
Re: Clicky Poll: Obama's vaca
It's like this part of me is thinking he should focus on his job and the economy, etc. But also, I feel like his wife and kids deserve to have some time with him...I don't know that it sends the best message to families that are really struggling...like people are losing homes and here he is biking around the Vineyard. I don't know. I feel torn, but I do sort of wish people would stop harping on him about it
anyone who thinks he isn't in 6 am staff meetings (or similar) on vacation is crazy.
and yes, he should go. he deserves some family time and at least a little break. its not like he shut down lehman brothers and is single handedly responsible for the recession or unemployment, nor would his not taking a short vacation cause a miraculous economic recovery.

They all still take vacations no matter what.
Wouldn't you rather have a refreshed president going into the next few months than a tired, worn out mess?
Plus, it's not like they're spending the taxpayers money, they are perfectly wealthy on their own. I'm far more irritated with Congress than I am with Obama about all this BS right now.
Yes, I think he deserves a vacation. It isn't like him not going on vacation would stop the "R" word from being thrown around and the markets from taking a tumble as a result. But I am with Emily, I highly doubt that he is completely removed from the office. He is still making decision and attending meetings despite being on vacation.
Is he going to be criticized? Yes, because that is what happens in American politics.
If the other lawmakers can take vacations why shouldn't he?? If the president isn't supposed to have a little relaxation time then why should senators, congress and other officials.
Yes most average Americans aren't getting to go on fabulous vacations and people are losing their homes but it's not like the ball that caused this didn't start rolling in the last administration. And I am sure that liek others have said he will still be working here and there and not completely on a R&R vacation.

I'm pretty sure he will do work stuff for more hours during his vacation than the average american does during a regular work week.
I just don't like him giving fodder to the critics. I had a lot of hope for him as a president and I'm sad about how things are going.
As an aside, I think George W spent like 800 days during his administration on "vacation" - of course I don't think presidents ever get a true vacation day, so there are always meetings, decisions, calls, briefings.
Thats like 2 1/2 years. What I wouldn't give to have that much time "off" in an 8 year period but like you said they probably never truly get a vacation day.
I mean our vacation time at work you earn 3.5 weeks minimally (after 10 years its 4 1/2 and after 25 years 5 1/2) so the average person that I work with thats been there 10 years or less would have 192 days in 8 years.

I haven't read any of the responses, so sorry if this repeats.
I don't see why his family shouldn't take a vacation. They are better off than most Americans, and would be even if he wasn't President. So, they would most likely take a vacation anyway.
Also, it's not like he won't be working during his vacation. The President works 24/7. Vacation or no vacation.

I voted other.
Because I didn't like either option. If they have the money then they should go, it shouldn't matter whether or not *my family* can go on a vacation.
If they can afford it, they should go. I'd go if we could.
ETA: I think people (general people, not you Claire) should stop caring about whether he goes on vacations, he's entitled to just like we are!
