I introduced myself to my neighbor the other day and he mentioned his wife was pregnant and due any day. I'm pretty sure this morning I saw them come home with a baby today. Would it be weird to stop by sometime with some food in a casserole dish (that I would only have pretended to make) or would that be weird because I've never met the wife and only had a 10 minute conversation with the husband?
Re: weird or nice gesture?
I'd find it a bit weird. Go with something smaller, maybe some cookies?

Cookies it is!
I think it's a nice gesture. Cookies would be awesome, or anything that they can nibble on or snack on without having to cook or prepare things. Maybe like banana bread, or muffins, or something like that.
Also, I would recommend not using a dish or tray that they would feel like they need to return (so, use something obviously disposable) so they don't have to worry about returning a dish when they're busy with the baby.
How to Play House blog
I agree with this.
