I just want to let you know that I encountered a Marva today. She was the 60 year old receptionist at the pediatric cardiologist office. I saw her name and I thought "I have to tell Mara!!"
Also, I'll be sending you another PM shortly.

Re: **Mara**
hehehehehe. That made me smile, thanks.

How did the appointment go? Did they give you any immediate feedback, or do you have to wait for results?
She was a very sweet woman for what it's worth. haha!
We did actually find out results today, and I feel a LOT better after the appt. She had an EKG and a Echocardiogram done, and was a champ for both tests. Her Dr. is AWESOME period, especially with kids. She said that the murmur that she has had is still there, but that she still considers it an "innocent murmur" and isn't even concerned about it. She said it's about as faint as it can get and still be considered a murmur, so it's nothing to worry about. Apparently something got lost in translation at some point, whether on the actual notes taken and relayed to Emma's primary pediatrician, or just when the Ped. re-read the notes to us. She had told us last month that she DID have a hole in her heart and that they were checking on it, which is why J. and I were like "huh?! what?! They didn't say anything about that two years ago when we were at the ped. card. office!" Well today the Dr. said that they were CHECKING to see if she had a hole in her heart, which she didn't. Thank God.
During the ultrasound, they did find a very small little "structure" or "connection" as she called it, which in essence is like a little bridge between two parts of her heart. She said that all babies have these connections in the womb, and that most close up on their own shortly after birth. However, it's not uncommon for it to take a little while for some kids. So she said she wants to see Emma back in two years just to check on the little connection. She said since she's still only 2.5 years old, chances are good that it'll close up on its own. If it doesn't, then they might discuss closing it (which is supposed to be a relatively simply outpatient procedure) but that in her case that still might not even be necessary because it's so small. She said the only real "harm" in having it (and I said "harm" because she kept saying it was such a minor thing to find it wasn't even a big deal) is that because in essence it's allowing blood to flow where it shouldn't be and her heart just doesn't run AS efficiently as it could be. She said that was really more of an issue with larger "connections" though, and that because Emma's was sooo tiny she wasn't even concerned about it putting any strain on her heart. So we have an appt. already scheduled for 2013 (LoL!) so they can do the same tests again and just check up on it. If it hasn't closed up on its own at that time, they might think about closing it up or just simply leaving it alone since it's so small.
I feel a lot better though after talking to the cardiologist, and hearing her reassure us that none of these issues are anything serious. So I'm feeling super relieved and blessed today!
Thanks for asking. Hope you enjoyed your novel
That's really great news!! I'm sure it will turn out to be nothing....it sounds like she will likely "outgrow" it soon anyway.

Sometimes I wonder if all the advanced technology that we have nowadays makes things scarier than they really are.

That's actually something that the Dr. brought up. She said in regards to the murmur, the equipment has gotten so much better that they can pick up the faintest little sounds. And in regards to the little "connection", she said that it's so tiny it probably wouldn't even be detectable on most equipment so it's nothing to be concerned about. All these "new and improved" machines/equipment are just SOOO sensitive and pick up every little "abnormality" though.
Glad to hear everything is okay!!
