Talk to me about OBX towns please!
DH grew up going to Kitty Hawk and really likes that area. I've noticed higher rental prices in Kitty Hawk versus, say, Nags Head. I'm wondering what the differences are between the areas and if there is a quality of beach issue. We are looking at Duck, Kitty Hawk and Nags Head.
TIA!

Re: Talk to me about OBX towns please!
thanks. so is there a difference in how close the houses are to the beach that are listed as "oceanfront"?
I personally prefer the Corolla and Duck areas. It is less crowded and less touristy. Of course that means fewer restaurants and shops as well. The beaches are usually pretty open without crowding and are quiet. A couple of years ago, I was in Corolla the week that starts with Labor Day and I was literally the ONLY person on the beach for a good portion of the day. (Prices are also cheaper during that time, but it is still pretty warm - if that is an option. Although I technically think it may be hurricane season.)
We go to Duck and love it. It is not quite as developed as Kitty Hawk and Nags Head...mainly becuase there is just a two-lane road going through the town that snakes north to Corolla. There are still lots of beach-y shops, but virtually no fast food restaurants, no mini-golf, and just one Wings!
I haven't spent enough time at the other places to judge the beach quality I'm afraid.
We did Corolla the first week of June this year and it was the same. Not hoards of people piled on top of you, and was really peaceful. Water was colder that time of year, but our rental house had a pool and hot tub.
Each realtor has different terms. Generally, beachfront/oceanfront should mean that there are no buildable lots between you and the water. I can't link to the exact page (which is a pop-up), but if you go to http://www.sunrealtync.com/property/search and click on the small text that says 'Location Information" under Location, it will show you what the different terms mean in terms of distance to the beach. A lot of listings say how many feet they are from the beach or beach access.
