S/O Frequent Flyers - New Luggage
Ladies,
BPaullo's post has me thinking - do you all have recommendations for light-weight but sturdy luggage that sort of "optimizes" the "bring-all-your-crap-but-not-exceed-the-weight-limit" bit?
I flew last summer with a big heavy bag, and just 1 - not the 2 - and was charged for the weight.
My bag's wheel came off that night and the other in the set has a broken zipper so we need new luggage (I have a business trip 9/10 so I need at least 1 new bag by then).
Any recommendations? I like sets, and in colors if possible.

Re: S/O Frequent Flyers - New Luggage
Check Marshall's, Ross, TJMaxx.
I found great samsonite ones there way below the retail cost.
I love Travelpro, best luggage ever. We have the Crew Series for our carry-ons because they get used more often. For our big suitcases, we have the Walkabout Lite because of the weight issues. We always weigh before we go and DH usually gets stuck with some of my stuff. The Walkabout Lite sounds like what you are looking for:

Only comes in black or blue though.

What do you people carry that's so heavy??? I always over pack, but I've never hit the weight limit...
Bought new luggage at Marshalls today. Wheel broke off an old one. It is Sampsonite and was a very good deal!!!
Shoes! And hairdryers/curling irons. And lots of clothes.
You should have seen my overage bill on the seaplane in the Maldives. In my defense, we were also going to London in February on the same trip. I had to pack a winter coat/boots/jeans....on a tropical island seaplane.

cameras and lenses.
but if you pack a lot of clothing, it's pretty heavy.
i have a giant purple suitcase that i drag around my infant stuff in-- got it at Burlington Coat Factory. they had SO MANY suitcases (and sets) when I was there. i know it's kind of seasonal/random what they have, but they had a heck of a lot of luggage that time.

I second Travelpro. I also have the Crew series. These bags are so durable, and efficient for packing a lot of items in a small space. I used to have some Samsonite luggage, and I LOVED the big wheels on my larger suitcases. Unfortunately the zipper pulls broke off within the first year of owning it, and the canvas exterior quickly fell apart after checking the bags one too many times.
I have a 22" Travelpro bag that will fit in the overhead compartment of most larger planes (ie 737), and I took that bag with me to Europe for a week-long trip. Granted, I only brought 3 pairs of shoes with me, but I managed fine with enough work clothes and workout clothes for 7 days. I am amazed at how they have engineered the bag to maximize storage.
You can usually get some good deals at the Leather & Luggage Repair Shop on the Beltway, just north of I-10. (on all luggage, not just Travelpro) They have a back room that is filled with clearance items that are last year's models.
Click it if you can't say it!
i am another one that brings a lot of mechaniocs for hair maintenance, lol. i did manage to take a backpack i could carry on (not check) to europe for a couple of months and to san francisco for a week. I wont take a WHOLE lot on my biz trip but when we go to disney we may have Christmas gifts and im sure we will bring crap back. i mean souvenirs. when i went to NM last summer i took my huge bag and crammed everything into it. lesson learned. what cost so much were green chile wines i brought back. should have mailed them!

I have always wondered that same thing! I over-pack and stress that I'll be over the limit, but my bag seems to usually be around 30-35 lbs. Still feels heavy to me!

Thanks everyone on your recommendations!
I know Samsonite is a good brand but I was wondering about Travelpro - hadn't every bought them (might be too expensive).
Looks like i have some shopping to do this weekend!

Check the close-out/clearance stuff on the link I posted. We always buy from there and have had great service and the prices are fantastic.

I did, thanks! I printed copies of the one you directly linked to (I particularly want a garment bag so your link was perfect) and i surfed around on there, but I thought I'd do some in-person shopping in case I get a better deal. If I don't I can buy online by the end of the weekend. =D
