deceptively delicious

anyone have this cookbook? it's the one by jessica seinfeld that talks about making vegetable purees to mix into foods to get kids to eat their veggies. i am always up for getting more veggies so i ordered it off pbs. not sure if i want spinach in my brownies though (insert obligatory pot joke here) but i will check it out.

Re: deceptively delicious

  • I got my copy thru PBS, too.  I do like the idea, but in all honesty the amount of veggies put into each recipe is so tiny (per serving) I wonder if it makes much of a difference.  But nonetheless, I've adopted some recipes that I use regularly now.  Stuff I wouldn't have thought to do otherwise.  And any veggies is a step up from non when you're feeding a picky toddler.  And a picky husband.

I haven't tried any of the dessert recipes yet.  The mac n cheese with squash is always a hit with Gabby.  Or with carrots.  I also always add carrots to our spaghetti or meat sauce now.  (I am lazy and have yet to spend the time the book suggests with preparing purees ahead of time - I have just used whatever babyfood I happen to have on hand - since I still have quite a bit left over from when Gabby was eating purees.)  I like the french toast recipe, too, and will use whatever puree I have on hand (pumpkin, applesauce, or overly ripe bananas).

  • I've been thinking about getting this book!  I never eat enough veggies and thought it might be good for me!
