Weekly grocery budget

This is a s/o from a discussion on ML, but how much do you spend a week in groceries and how many mouths are you feeding? I think DH & I may spend too much...

Re: Weekly grocery budget

  • I budget $100/week, but look at my budget as a monthly total, so if I go over week 1, I make sure we eat cheaper meals week 2, etc. I usually go to the Farmer's Market for produce, Publix for BOGO deals and basics, Whole Foods for organic dairy and vegetarian proteins, and CVS for toiletries using the ECB program each week. This amount also includes dog food, cleaning supplies, toiletries, etc. I do coupon shop as much as possible, and save a ton on produce at the farmer's market.

ETA: Feeding 2 adults and 3 small dogs, haven't yet factored in baby spending, but should be negligible for now as she's BF and diapers are their own category.

  • We spend about $500 - 600 per month on groceries.  This includes dog foot, toiletries, alcohol, etc.  We are feeding two adults, a toddler and two small dogs.
  • We shop every 2 weeks and typically spend $400-500/mo for groceries, toiletries, etc. That's for 2 adults, 2 cats and a dog.

  • We are probably at about $115ish per week, on average. It's typically about $100, but there's often one week that goes over because of something that's expensive or we buy in bulk (laundry det, TP/paper towels etc.).

ETA: 2 human mouths, one small pup.

  • About $70 a week or so. I supplement a lot of my food at work though. The mom keeps food I like on the fridge.

  • $100-110ish a week. Some weeks more, some weeks less.

  • We budget $90/week or about $400/month.

Just for fun, I looked up our spending on mint.com, and this year we have averaged $108/week. Oops.

Then I thought, wait, we made some big changes to our diets in April. I wonder what our grocery bill was like before and after. It looks like all last year and the beginning of this year, we averaged just under $90 per week. Since the diet changes, it's been $120/week. Guess we need to rein in our spending or tweak the budget to reflect new priorities. (Our eating out spending has decreased in that same time period, but only ~$5/week.)

  • Right now we're between 600 and 700 a month for 2 adults and a baby, but we only eat out maybe 1 time a month, sometimes not.
  • When DH and I used to shop together. It would average 60-70/week. Now that he goes by himself... It's even less (well, a lot less in food, a lot more in beer). And all we eat is frozen food anymore. I really wish I had time to shop/cook. (this is for 2 of us, and we eat out maybe once a week).

  • Ok. You all made me feel better. We fluctuate anywhere between $90 and $120, but typically average out between $100 and $110. That seems like a lot for 2 people, but we get a lot of seperate things so I guess that's where it adds up. We very rarely have to throw a bunch of stuff away so I don't think we're too wasteful. DH gives me a hard time because I have a millon snack (almonds, greek yogurt, hummus) but that also results in me always packing my lunch whereas he eats out once or twice a week.

  • When I was in an apt by myself I could keep it to $65/wk. I have no clue how ppl do this with 2 ppl without eating spagghetti every night.

  • We average 80 a week before farmers market/dog food. Farmers market varies based on what looks appealing.

  • Usually about $125 week including alcohol, toiletries, sometimes make-up and cleaning supplies. Feeding 2 people- we spend an extra $100 on dog food in a separate budget.

This is usually where we are too.  But it doesn't include TP/paper towels/etc (we have a separate BJ's line) or dog food.

  • We spent $55 this week. That doesn't include dog food.
  • Usually $80-100ish for 2 adults and a 3-year-old. M is breastfed so no cost for her yet. That includes toiletries, TP, etc, but not dog food or diapers.
