I went in on 8/10 for an induction at 6pm. I was 41 weeks 3 days. I had the cervadil inserted and instantly had mild contractions 7-8 minutes apart all night. The next morning after taking out the cervadil I was 1cm and about 80% effaced. Things started to progress quickly. Soon I was 3cm, 100% effaced and my water broke on it's own at about 1pm. I asked for an epidural. The epi was wonderful but didn't numb a small portion of my right abdomen and my right hip. It was really uncomfortable because I had to lie on my side the entire time. Baby was not happy with me laying on my back, which was the only comfortable position for me at the time. I started to progress 1 cm an hour and was about 6 cm by 6 pm. The nurse I had at the time was off at 8 pm and was getting my hopes up saying, "we're having a baby soon". After that the pitocin was turned way up gradually from where we started at 3 to 18. I started to feel everything again and had the worst back labor. They realized my epi catheter had fallen out and had to redo my epi. Also the babies head wasn't in the best position and that' why my back labor was so bad. I was monitered for a few more hours and from 6pm-4am I had only moved from 6cm to 7cm even after turning the pitocin way up. We decided to do a csection and Olivia was born at 4:27 am at 8 pounds 5 ounces and 21 inches on 08/12/11 after about 35 hours of labor. I am so in love and recovery is going well. My husband is amazing and the best dad I could ask for for our little girl. We had our first visit at the dr and she is almost back to her birth weight. She was 8 pounds 1 ounce. We are breastfeeding as well and it's going great. She is a really good baby and still can't believe she's already here when I look at her. I feel like I'm in a dream.
I gave birth at Vassar and it was an awesome experience. My whole family was impressed with this hospital.
